I think this is why Dan plays most of the games - because when he has nothing else to do but make commentary, he turns into a bratty little shit who just wants to critique the game/Phil's skills more than actually try and make it seem like they're having fun.

That said, still liked the video. It's equally fun for me to watch them in this kind of scenario as it is them playing something they're genuinely into.

Fully disagree that the gaming channel was created just to spon the future book and tour/build their brand together, but a gaming channel was a business decision and I think, in true form to them, when making business decisions they try to go with a mix of indulgence/things that they enjoy and just solid financial decision making. The original FNAF is their third most popular video on the channel, it has over five million views. Dan might resent having to play the sequels but they are proven popular. I also understand them wanting to keep games they enjoy to themselves. Playing something with an audience of millions undoubtedly turns it into something that is less of an escape and more just a part of their job.

Hi all, long time lurker etc.

Today's Sonic video was pretty poor content, in my view. Dan clearly wasn't excited by it from the beginning. Phil played well and was more into it. They needed to be on the same page: either both take it seriously, or both laugh at it, but Dan just ended up looking a little obnoxious because Phil was trying hard and he didn't really care.

It improved a lot somewhere in the second game, after both became more engaged with the storyline. Overall, /5

one of those thumbs up is from me, and honestly that sums up my opinion on both this and yesterday's video

i know some people still find it enjoyable, but personally knowing that they are playing something they don't like at all completely ruins it for me, it's not even a problem of them pretending to like it or not, hell, i think i like it more when they are at least honest

it's not even a problem of it being a 'serious' game or a shitpost on game form as sonic.exe is, i LOVE the impossible quiz videos, idc what the heck they play as long as they are genuinely into it

i understand and respect why they wouldn't want to play their fave games on camera, but didn't they think of that before deciding to have a gaming channel jfc

i gotta say i actually quite liked the video?! I am done with this Sonic.exe since the beginnings of time (it was never good, even the 1st one) but Dan being so done with it and Phil very poorly trying to make us believe he was interested was actually pretty funny.
I liked it a lot more than when they pretended to be immersed and scared in the 2 installments of that thing they did the years before. The bants felt pretty authentic and unscripted too.
Obviously i would prefer they played games they actually enjoyed but they have for some reason decided against it something like 2 years ago now and appart very very rare exceptions like PT have consistently played only games they don't give a shit about and very often despise too.

Critical yes, maybe we have different views of what being pretentious is like however that to me, was pretentious. This was on the US tour, someone found them at the Chicago Bean and took pictures of them. When you zoom up, you can see they're not holding hands. But why would they in the middle of a crowded park after they met a fan?
Dan has got to be at least 6'4. Maybe he seems so tall because Phil has bad posture?

Half of the vid I was agreeing with him the other half I was Really makes you wonder what he must have been like as a child, he definitely acted about 5 or 6 multiple times in the video. I didn't really get the sonic.exe video. I need to rewatch as didn't wanna watch with headphones on as dans screaming hurts my head so watched it really quietly in bed. I didn't find it very interesting and apparently neither did they as they both seemed pretty uninterested. My favourite bit was at the end when they were discussing it and Phil looked so handsome in the whole thing. We just need those glasses to make a cheeky appearance.

Re: Dan's lovely saltiness: I cannot help but think part of it is his frustration with newly formed Spooky Week traditions. Three years in, and they've done FNAF and Sonic.exe first and foremost. Because.... it's Spooky Week. So.. yeah.

Dan doesn't take quite as many photos of Phil as Phil takes of Dan (or at least, they don't post as many for us to see), but he does take quite a few, and some of them are real gems. The cereal-stealing photos are sooo iconic, and I personally will always have a soft spot for the #philday photo and those two photos of Phil on the sofa looking at his phone taken from weird angles.

Up to now this Spooky Week is just a carbon copy of the previous two with FNAF and Sonic.exe There are so many spooky scary games out there, why keep revisiting new installments of the same ones? PUT SOME EFFORT INTO YOUR SHIT JFC.

- Dan's hair really looks bad... the haircut I mean not the wavyness that's cute. But also not doing it any favors.
- PHIL IS ACTUALLY CONTROLLING A GAME FOR ONCE WOW END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR.
- They're far too cheery to make this spooky, especially Dan with the singing.
- They're just casually talking about static, there's no immersion and they don't actually give a shit about this game.
- Dan's overacting ass should've fallen of his chair right there to make this video interesting.
- Phil doing charity and promoting Gaga's Perfect Illusion.
- Phil is at least kinda trying to pretend that he cares about this game, while Dan...
- We have to get our jump scares from Phil himself now because this game ain't delivering.

Listen while I enjoyed the sarcasm and snark towards the game and them not pretending to find it interesting, it simultaneously annoys the shit out of me because they don't have to do this. They can play any other spooky game they want, their audience would fucking welcome a change of pace, but they won't fucking do it. Whether it's because they're afraid of the audience not liking new things or because they can't be fucking bothered anymore I dunno. But stop complaining and suck it up then, no one is making you play this game

Anyway the game was boring and Sonix.exe really should've ended after the first one because at least that one was actually disturbing. The bantz were pretty on point though, at least a lot better than they were in FNAF and the previous Sims video. But again, annoyed at their lack of caring for Spooky Week and DAPG in general rn.

I've come to the conclusion that Dan and Phil don't care about any of the games they've been playing for like a year (sims, undertale and crappy apps mainly). If they like a game, they don't record themselves playing it. Why do they have a gaming channel, then? Idk, but they are not even trying to pretend they care any more.

See Dan being obnoxious about having to play Undertale on camera earlier this year DAPG's wasted potential gets me angry sometimes. The hype for it before anyone really knew what 'Project X' was, the launch of the damn thing and it's few good months, the decline because of the book and tour and now...they seem to have so little interest in it. If they still actually gave a shit they'd put effort into finding new games to play, or revisit old school games from their childhood/teen years like they originally said they wanted to do. Not this tragic half assery. Hoping they'll regain a bit of spark in the new year, no surprise side projects anymore. Who am I kidding?

well, i always suspected they only got a gaming channel to officially establish the joint #danandphil brand on youtube before the book and the tour and for uploading spon videos.
