I've said this before, but this wasn't exactly communicated very straight forward. As Dan said, the people who watch the liveshows are the 2%. It shouldn't really be expected of the 98% to dig through a 40 minute video to find out what's going on. A simple "Pretty busy with tour prep these days" tweet would do it. I wonder why they are so against it. I feel like they really want to hide all behind-the-scenes and business away and stay magical and elusive creatures instead of busy businessmen.alittledizzy wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 3:05 pmI think my issue is that I don't see how they could be more communicative about what they're doing, since they've literally both said that they're in tour planning mode right now. Haven't they both done that though? From Dan, in his last livestream:hello9217 wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 3:08 pmSome arguments I think were justified while others weren't but deppy could literally clear this up by posting a tweet or even if Dan does a ls and just talks about everything that's going on at the moment and discusses how busy they are.
"This week the tour stuff is kicking off, because we need to start making big decisions. So we were having some really fun conversations this week about what the set will look like for Interactive Introverts. I've got some strong concepts, yeah, it's gonna be good. It's gonna be less extra than the last one because obviously we're not doing this whole theatrical scripted comedy."
“Any creative ideas we have for what we’re gonna do in this show that need months of planning or preparation, these are the kinds of decisions we need to make now, so we’re having lots of chats about that in these next couples weeks, and it’s just gonna be so goddamn fun and crazy and mother of god.”
And from Phil, in his last livestream:
"We've gone into tour planning mode now and already made some very exciting decisions which I'm... ugh, I can't wait for you guys to see it. Today we had about a three hour meeting talking about what we want the set to look like. Um, so we've got a - the person that designed the set for TATINOF is back, but we have a completely different vision for this one and the vibes I'd say if TATINF is here it's like the polar opposite of what the TATINOF set looked like. So there's no microwaves, no emojis, it's very cool and I'm hoping we can actually share some pictures of the set design process. I don't know - I don't know how that could work. But I'm excited to share some of this with you, because it's really interesting - even then things that we're not gonna use that have been mocked up that we've thought maybe we could do that, maybe we could do this, maybe we could stand here or maybe this could be how it looks - are all like really cool sketches and designs and things like that. And I think the next stage is after we - which we did today, we decided what we wanted it to look like basically - is for it to get turned into a little model which is my favorite thing because it can be like little Dan and Phils in the model of the set and you can really picture it and then that's gonna bring more ideas. Like as soon as I see the set I'm like that's how this can work, that's how this can work, that's where we can go, that's where we can stand. Sorry, if you haven't realized, I'm hyped about this."
I don't think either of them were mysterious about why they're suddenly busier during the day, as opposed to 2017 where they had no major projects happening for the majority of the year. Do they need to come online once a week just to say the exact same thing? Are people's memories really that short, or do people think that tour planning is two meetings and then that excuse no longer holds? (I mean obviously the answer is yes, people do want them to just say the same thing regularly, I do get that. And I'll stop being repetitive with my opinion after this post. I'm just still baffled at why people feel like they don't know what's happening. That's not to say people can't still be disappointed, or even complain; I think I care more that people catastrophizing and acting like there are deeper, darker motivations for Dan and Phil making the choices they're making besides... they're busy.)
In my opinion, people who are not invested enough to watch the liveshows are also probably not people who are upset that they're not tweeting once a day or posting more than one video a week. Casual is usually casual across the board, and right now Dan and Phil's level of interaction/posting schedule is pretty typical youtuber that I don't think would raise alarm bells with anyone except people who are the type of fans that definitely watch liveshows, and they know it.LtrllySusan wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 3:36 pmI've said this before, but this wasn't exactly communicated very straight forward. Personally I’ve been wondering why it seems like there’s no content when objectively their content isn’t actually much different than normal. I think I’m having a hard time adjusting to the lack of live shows because I always felt like those were a kind of special thing they did. I get they’re the busy and I don’t need a reminder of it on a weekly basis lol... but as a fan I’m feeling a little “empty” I guess.
Anyway I enjoyed the sims video. I like it when they decorate the house although their fashion choices are horrendous.
I like the Devan thing too. At first (when they were toddlers), I was NOT a fan of the idea because it’s super predictable, the story writes itself... but now that it’s happening Ive decided I like it. I appreciate that it’s just a thing they’re fairly casually doing. And the rest of their sims series is predictable too so whatever.
I hope Dab and Evan move into one of the swanky city apartments Dan and Phil drooled over before.

On the last two points, same and yes! I was uncomfortable when fans immediately started the shipping, but now I’m onboard.Grey wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 5:42 pm Personally I’ve been wondering why it seems like there’s no content when objectively their content isn’t actually much different than normal. I feel similar. Which reminds me, I think the decrease in liveshows has had a big effect on the complaints going around. Also, the timing is pretty bad. It's right after we were truly spoiled with the quality and quantity of content for like 2(?) months. And not just content as in the amount of videos - spooky week, baking, pinof, gamingmas, etc. Every time a video was posted, there was immediately another "seasonal" thing to look forward to. I mean, I think that's a huge factor in and of itself, but combine it with the lack of liveshows and, well. I don't know if I'd say the melodrama is justified, but I can picture why it's come to that, if that makes sense? To be clear I'm not part of that crowd at all, I'm actually kinda glad to be using this time to go through my fic backlog.Grey wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 5:42 pm Personally I’ve been wondering why it seems like there’s no content when objectively their content isn’t actually much different than normal. Re: the topic of their lack of communication. I get that they do so in liveshows, and maybe that should be enough, but idk... I have mixed feelings. I had found it odd that the announcement about the gaming streams came smack dab in the middle of a Phil liveshow. I understand that people wanting news about liveshows would be the ones watching liveshows, but the audience for the gaming streams was the general dapg audience. I don't know, maybe they wanted to avoid backlash and chose to rely on word of mouth to spread the news.
I feel like a "hey we're pressing pause on gaming streams while we're super busy preparing for our upcoming tour! <insert spon>" tweet would have covered all fronts and calmed people down a little. Maybe one could say it's not their responsibility to address random people getting worked up over what's ultimately just "Dan and Phil are busy", they've explained themselves in liveshows, etc., but eh. I guess I just don't understand their reasoning sometimes.

Maybe it’s just easy to forget what they said a week ago, I found the opposite effect, that I was just used to less from them and didn’t mind, once Phil had just said the thing. The glut of content late in the year covers about two months, I think, so it’s easy to get used to it.
@autumnhearth I didn’t actually make a Sims video, I felt so weird just doing an intro, though I have thought over and over about it, heck gaming was my 3rd channel idea, it feels too much work to commit to doing it properly, damn health got me used to not doing much even now it’s improved. I probably should, thanks for being interested! It was a family of Orphan Black Sims, btw, I watched The English Simmer make some and copied the options she chose for the face cos she didn’t make them downloadable and she’d got them to look so like Tatiana Maslany, the actress who plays the clones (I wondered if that would be a problem sharing the video). Your household of diverse lesbians sounds fun
Happy birthday, Phil’s channel of Amazing
Hasn't it always been in its random phase?

I think the reason people are feeling it a bit more is because from October-December we had pretty consistent content. I also think that live shows really removed that personal aspect from dan and phil. It was a way to find out what they have been up to and seemingly connect with them. I actually prefer sporadic live shows because then they have more to talk about. I mean Dan can probably babble for hours on end but Phil gets to a point where he just starts shouting out group chats when he runs out of things to say so I think fewer live shows are better.
I admit the people on twitter were just really getting to me, don't worry I deleted, but when you have what seems like hundreds of people saying everything is changing and the world of dan and phil is coming to an end and deppy are changing then it starts to get to you.

I was very glad to see this too, especially the fic writer recommendations. So far I’ve just watched the Lady Door video, I love that whole thing so much. Phil at his silliest and cheekiest, and his cheekbones are on point.DatCog wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 8:25 pmI'm glad this has been shared on here as I've spent a very enjoyable few hours going through this lovely list, bookmarking, subscribing, following etc and I'm nowhere near finished yet! I watched the video last night but was tired so I told myself to comment in the morning, but when I woke up I could barely recall anything that happened. Oops :') So late reaction after rewatching, but it was a decent D&P Kinda Suck At Sims But Who Cares episode. Nothing special, but cute. I liked the nice laid back banter and them redecorating is always good. I won't talk about their outfit choices though...
Obviously, the best moment was confirmation that they're really going for the Dab/Evan romance.
As far as the activity or lack thereof discussion goes... There seem to be far more people mad about this mild content drought than there were about the one in 2016 and that has me a bit confused ngl. Not necessarily just on here either, I see this suddenly coming from all platforms where people were generally pretty quiet 2 years ago. Aside from the void left by gamingmas now hitting double as hard, is it just the liveshow thing? I generally don't care for most of those, Dan makes me aggressive and Phil bores me to death. So I'm not too bothered about this drought yet (even though I do think they're being boring atm), at least nothing to how I was two years ago. A lot of my opinions from back then on their bare minimum approach to their careers haven't changed, but I don't feel like repeating them atm. Let's see how I feel in a few weeks :') My main issue with them rn is only bad communication. Mentioning things in the middle of a liveshow after first having to be questioned about it is not enough and they need to do better.

Kind of irrelevant, random thought -- but this made me feel so old omg. I subscribed to Phil 10 years ago when i was 13. Made me think about how different it is for most of Dan and Phil's viewers age demographic compared to how thing were for me when I was the same age on Youtube in the early days. I'm glad i got to experience yt when it was smaller and more lowkey, as opposed to first discovering it at the monster it is now.

Sims video was alright. I guess I missed the devan confirmation? Just giving a hand kiss to get out of an awkward situation does not scream gay storyline confirmation to me. Maybe I was just too tired when watching it and should watch again tomorrow because I undoubtedly missed/already forgot like 90% of the video. The outfits were awful, but then again, what else is new with these two.
I love the alexander mcqueen boots, and honestly I would love to see myself in them just as much as I'd love to see dan in them, but dan is more realistic considering my precarious financial status at any given moment.

I totally understand people being sad about the loss of regular live shows and the resultant feeling of a muted sense of connectivity with Dan and Phil - I feel the same way, as for me live shows have always been the most fulfilling content Dan and Phil produce. However, I don't at all understand people feeling angry about Dan and Phil's alleged content drought and/or lack of interactivity with their audience. Firstly, because I don't perceive them to be tweeting less than usual or uploading less frequently (especially on the gaming channel). But secondly (and perhaps more importantly), we are not owed personal details about their lives. As much as I am personally here for them as people more than I'm here for their main channel content, and as such I genuinely cherish the intimate stories and anecdotes they tell us of their everyday lives, Dan and Phil have no obligation to tell us any of that. So while I am absolutely entitled to feel sad, or disappointed, or upset about the fact that as their live shows become infrequent so too will our insight into the day-to-day lives of Dan and Phil, I am in no way entitled to feel angry about it, and I have no right to demand that they either share more with us or provide an explanation.
I'm sure a large part of the cut back is indeed their business with preparation for the tour, but even if it's also because they've decided they now want to limit what they share with us and establish further boundaries so as to achieve a sense of privacy that was previously compromised, then that is their right and they actually don't owe us an explanation. Both Dan and Phil have now explained to us that they're cutting down on live shows, which I really appreciate as I do think we deserve to at least know for sure that there is a change in what was once a regular schedule. But I don't think they owe us anything further. So as much as I'm sad about it, and I'll miss weekly live shows desperately, it's not fair at all for me (or anyone) to be angry about it. And I find it odd that people would nag at Dan and Phil about a lack of content to the point that Dan alluded to it in the tags of the recent Sims video on Tumblr, when they're uploading around twice a week to the gaming channel
This isn't really in response to anything I've seen on here, more so what I've seen on twitter, btw.
(also the sims video was really enjoyable, i hope they continue with dab and evan and i thought both dan and phil came across as energised and enthusiastic about the game)

I really want to write something too long about all of my feelings on the lack of liveshows, how it may bode for the future, and general current "boredom" (which is a word being used as a catchall for things extending beyond just boredom..) so that it isn't just brushed aside as being entitled or histrionic or whatever ("I'm not like those people, my perspective is actually valid and logical, pout pout"), but it would be a waste of time for too many reasons (chief among them being I would probably out myself as exactly one of those people, ripe for public ridicule, so let's just not worry about it). So instead I would like to express my ~MILD ~"boredom" through song* because this is where my brain immediately went at that picture:alittledizzy wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 10:38 pm (I'm glad you guys are enjoying it the list!!)

I relate somewhat to the general fandom feeling. And I think today, I've sort of pin-pointed why it is that everything feels a bit doom-and-gloom at the moment: We have nothing to look forward to anymore. No date to get excited for.
Like, don't get me wrong. There will be the tour (and its many fan tweets and stalker pics and reviews to keep up with) and we will and still are getting videos pretty regularly, but absolutely nothing is scheduled anymore. We no longer have that radio show, we don't have the live show, we definitely don't have a posting schedule, and we can barely get a daily tweet out of them at this point (though, boys, if you're reading, a daily tweet is not scheduled #content and I won't accept it as such). It's kinda like we're all sitting around wondering what's next and when, without really having anything to hang our hat on.
When the radio show ended, we had the live shows. And I remember that conversation so clearly. "So, there's no radio show. Sad, but it's fine! We still have an hour with each of them each week! Plus videos!" RIP tbh.
I love fan content. I absolutely do. It keeps me engaged when they don't. But, I honestly just want to be able to look forward to seeing them at some point. And not through a blurry M&G pic.
ETA: I do want to note one thing, upon a bit of self-reflection. I don't want this to sound as depressing as it does. I value the fact that Dan and Phil post a video roughly twice a week. That's more than I can say for most YouTubers and I hope they keep it up, because it's a blessing. I'm just also a big fan of schedules.

I have mixed feelings about that tbh; on the one hand of course I enjoy their content, but I also respect that they seem to be taking very VERY tentative first steps to a more sustainable, lowkey presence. Like they have the Tour, yeah, but they also have that board game and have mentioned their shop a fair few times. To me it seems like they're shying away from their actual ages less, and being less furtive about enforcing boundaries. It's actually kind of admirable how lately the vibe has seemed more accessible, tone-wise, while actually being more untouchable. Like tbh I actually had my first "holyshit, these guys really are public figures and not at all living the average life" moment recently (I mean I knew that already but it didn't really resonate) and I was a bit taken aback. YouTube creates such a weird dynamic, damn.
Basically, if it feels like less content and less... linear? in general, I think y'all are right and I just haven't been paying close attention. But I don't think it's a bad thing; I think it's actually a pretty healthy choice, like laying foundations for the future and maybe easing into other areas/means of content.
I don't know how long I'd want to be living in the public eye in such an intimate (albeit heavily curated) way, you know? But who knows~
unlike this post, probably

damn the patriarchy! if dan can't fit into them that also sucks for women with large feet that won't be able to either, if mcqueen is trying to only market to that demographic. he's not worn boots like that much before, i'd like to see his legs and posture in them. he should pick up some similar ones if that's a style he's craving.flarequake wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2018 11:42 pm Ooh, those shoes would be interesting. Go on, McQueen, bigger sizes needed![]()
i don't understand the building hysteria purely from knowing they've never been good at consistent communication methods, ever. it's kind of their trademark, lol. i totally understand missing the liveshows, though, a weekly live element has set them apart from others for a significant period of time now.
so when they say they're quitting liveshows, then i will get really sad. but...they have not. and phil just did one. i can see some people are pre-emptively upsetting and stressing themselves out, a very common fandom domino-effect phenomena. it's not fun, i've been there, but it's also a partially self-destructive state of mind.
it may also be a self-fulfilling prophecy, if liveshows are something they find personally taxing and the expectation stressful. if that is the one thing people are focusing on above all else, i would find that an added stressor and it would psyche me out of wanting to go live again regularly.

Okay so iv seen this discussion the past couple days mainly on twitter but I just wanna give my view. Iv been seeing people are confusing what people are actually meaning. Me asking for basic communication is not asking for more content. I’m not asking for more videos and I don’t think their upload rate is that different from ever before, We get a gaming video around every 5 days that’s normal. So what I’m not annoyed about is seeing groups of people say “ Dan and Phil are planning a world tour for us”, “dan and phil make videos for us, they tweet for us, they give us content and you complain” NO! Just no! Stop with putting them on this pedestal where you act like everything dnp do is selfless! Dan and phil do what they do because it’s their job. I go to work for money it’s how the world works. Dan and phil uploading a video is not a treat. They are youtubers making content is what they are meant to do, if not then they don’t make money. Me asking to know why a gaming subscription is cancelled is not me demanding anything other than what we should know. Me asking when the next live show is, is not me demanding content! I can appreciate they are busy I know they are probably working very hard. But that doesn’t mean they can’t tweet wtf is going on. Phil completely avoided answering when his next live was. Why? I still don’t understand... is it keep them wanting more or? Do you just not feel like you need to mention these things? Again gaming streaming people’s subscription being cancelled, you want to stop livegaming I get it I understand but why is this something you can’t tweet about. A very small amount of people watch lives vs how many people follow on twitter. This isn’t me asking for much. This is asking for basic understanding with what is happening. Iv been seeing people on twitter say it’s the “phannies” demanding stuff but no it’s not. Everyone iv seen show the same opinion is the “older” viewers (and by older I guess I mean older than 18) these are the people who can share an opinion on constructive criticism while still being a viewer or fan. We need to stop acting like we aren’t allowed to give an opinion because we’re not entitled to anything. Guess what as a YouTuber if you want to keep and maintain a audience this is what you have to do. The stress of their fan base really gets to me. It’s constant fighting and drama. I can’t express a opinion without being told I’m wrong. And for what? Wanting to know basic information. On this forum I feel like is the best place I’m allowed to have an opinion. People may disagree but with the way people gang up and bully on twitter it’s not something I want to be apart of.
I hope no one reads this as me bashing either dan or Phil. I’m not at all. This is just me being annoyed at people thinking they need to protect them. They are grown men. My opinion doesn’t effect dnp in the slightest. I keep all my opinions on here. If I had no opinion then it would show I didn’t care about them. Truth is I care way more than I should, but I can separate my self as a fan and see the bigger picture. Me wanting to know basic information isn’t me being entitled. I’m not asking for them to vlog their daily life, post more on instagram or even tweet more generic tweets. I wanna know if things change. If your busy a simple tweet saying busy week with tour expect a video in a couple days is not hard. I hate living in limbo. Before I was in the “phandom” I didn’t care and was fine with not knowing everything but what I learnt is other people’s constant aggressive behaviour is what makes being a viewer hard. I have no idea what my point is and I’m definitely getting side tracked. Guessing my point is I need to take a break for Twitter it’s way too much. Again I’m not mad I’m fed up
I can see everyone’s point of view neither side is 100% right. No one get mad at me I’m sensitive haha I know it’s hard to tell people’s tone when reading what they wrote so no one take this the wrong way.

Fuck, they out of the blue canceled subscription stuff? That's... a bit shitty, tbh. I like that you're approaching this from almost a business angle, btw. It is irresponsible to not let viewers/clients know when a product/content is being changed.Secretstanner wrote:Do you just not feel like you need to mention these things? Honestly I'm so used to thinking of YouTube as its own slightly off-putting beast that I forget that at the end of the day, it is a business. It's a platform, yeah, but... it's a business. I think it's easy to romanticize anything vaguely creative (and in turn undermine its validity because somehow that makes sense, rme), but at this stage of the game, yeah: you've got to treat viewers (esp. those that are literal consumers) in a different way than someone with like 600 subs could afford to treat viewers, imo.
It's the weirdest ouroboros tbh because it's stifling on both sides: people get pushy and entitled and trample boundaries and it is completely fucked up, and then people act like they're doing viewers a favor by creating content in the first place! What a mess. I guess that's what happens when you monetize so much of who you are as a person instead of what you create. How tf can you parse that line when you yourself are to some extent the product? The thought is stress-hives waiting to happen tbh.
I want this on my tombstone tbh. Incredible. Like this shit is Too Real, damn. I love it. ;ghost;Secretstanner wrote: I hope no one reads this as me bashing either dan or Phil. I’m not at all. But yeah, you've raised some really interesting points and given me a sincere laugh* so ty for that!
*I'm not being snarky btw; your last paragraph is just very passionate and I think we've all been there at some point whilst traversing the great Phantier lmao!

I know that they'd never do it, but what they need to do is come up with a monthly schedule and stick to it. They wouldn't need to make extra content either, it would just be spacing out what they've got.
An example could be like this:
Gaming videos- every Monday and Friday
Dan Liveshow- First Tuesday of the month
Phil Main Channel Video- Second Thursday of the month
Dan Main Channel video-Third Tuesday of the month
Phil Liveshow-last Thursday of the month
This kind of schedule already mimics what they usually do, but it's videos coming out at a consistent time that the fans can count on. Doing something like this would also keep people from bugging them on Twitter asking when the next liveshow or gaming video is. Plus, it's something they could keep on tour. If it was too much for them, they could cut down to one joint liveshow a month or one gaming video a month.
I'm with the people that are irritated with the lack of communication. I'm fine with the amount of content I'm getting, but I'm not fine with wondering WHEN or IF I'm going to get it. All the boys need to do is tweet "Really busy right now! Video next week!" and I'd be okay. Both Markiplier and jacksepticeye had to stop making videos when they were touring, and they both communicated with their audience when they did. Like many people have pointed out, this is their job. If I'm not going to show up to work, I have to let my boss know. The same goes for Dan and Phil and their audience. In a way we are like their boss, since our ad revenue and ticket buying is what's giving them income, so we need to be told when they plan on showing up for work. Again, not asking for more content, just want to know if I'm going to get it and when to expect it.
