I liked the Christmas-sy atmosphere of the video (props to Phil for the festive background), but Dan did rush the gameplay in my opinion and I really felt bad for the little cubs ):

I'm not speaking for everyone else, but the game just genuinely made me sad. Is there a support group for people who get too quickly and easy attached to pixelated animal characters? Or like. Real animals. But for this scenario, pixelated. I realized quickly that Dan was gonna lose the babies based on his gameplay choices, like running away from them without bothering to keep up with where they were, and... I'm not gonna exaggerate it and say I was like, super upset but I definitely wasn't enjoying watching cute animals get killed? And to be honest it didn't feel like Dan was enjoying that either. It was just kind of a (literally) sad start to the month which kills the hype somewhat. But only temporarily; the hype will be back tomorrow as I get excited to see what they do next.

Oh, I didn't even think about that. I guess this video didn't make me anywhere near as sad as Phil's videos did as like, we never really saw the babies die? They just disappeared off screen? Even when we saw the one by the river fainting and being rly hungry, and then the one the wolf caught, we didn't actually see that baby dying or the wolf grabbing the baby. And in Phil's series they were falling into rivers, getting picked up by birds, h o r r i f y i n g. So I think that's why to me I just kept thinking "ahh they'll reunite at the end".

I hope they don't do too many SIMS videos this month. I used to be heavily into SIMS, like doing all of the fan-made challenges, decorating my house like it was on a TV show and buying all the packs, so now it's boring seeing YouTubers idly play with it. Plus, there's soooo many to watch that I haven't caught up, so yeah, I'm gonna selfishly hope they only do the one

I did some reading up on Shelter, in case you care:

Firstly, you can name the babies They just accepted the suggested names. It's relevant cause once you finish, you can play a new cycle as one of your former cubs who is then the pregnant mom. So you can control whole generations of lynxes!

I wonder how much Dream Daddy they'll play. They've mentioned it in the liveshows so I guess they'll do some videos, but if they wanna finish it, they'd have to post at least 2? more videos - and then they wouldn't really explore the other dating options. Would just be weird if they had let that series die over the last months, revive it for 2 more videos and never finish it after all.

With all the things they've signed in the past like people's shoes, phone cases and "adoption" papers, I doubt they'd mind. Since it's a merch thing obviously related to them then it could look a bit iffy, but I'm certain they'll be their usual lovely selves. I imagine they'd be intrigued by what it's from if it has the forum name on or they might just find the shibes cute. Or you could tell them what it's from and then at least they'd know it's not quite the same as other fandom merch. I bet they'd be tickled to know it's to support one of their fanspaces.

Finally some felines on their channel! It wasn't the Phil solo I was hoping for, but it was what I expected it to be and I did enjoy it. Dan was horrible at it though, so frustrating! Just slow down mate. I definitely preferred Phil playing it: he tried his best, got attached to the babies, you could actually see them dying (which was harrowing in a good way), etc. This one was more rushed and chaotic and I didn't get what was happening most of the time.

I thought the video was a bit odd. I like the first Shelter video, and have rewatched the series a couple of times, but the later vids get super depressing and they're not really the kind of content I gravitate to. I began watching deppy for their bants together (the advent of the gaming channel was a dream come true), so solo gaming vids don't really do it for me either. This one was frustrating because the game was much harder and more ambiguous than the first Shelter. I feel like Phil could have given Dan some tips instead of just commiserating with him AFTER the babies had died. Surely he noticed that Dan was going too fast?! If not then I'm sorry but they're both shit and should have left the Shelter series behind in 2015. The bants really suffered in this one.

Anyway, looking forward to the rest of gaymas gaymingmas gamingmas.

Can't say Shelter 2 video was my favourite, but it had its moments. Phil's reaction to each of Dan's realisations he lost the lynx babies was sort of cute (which sounds very morbid when written down). I think Phil kinda set Dan up from the beginning, Dan really didn't seem to know the game mechanics, and Phil was like "here's your highly requested Shelter 2. see? I'm not the only (potentially) terrible (animal) parent".

I'm a bit meh about the video posting times for gamingmas, but guess I'm just in the unlucky timezone. Also I don't understand why won't they do more gaming streams for gamingmas? I thought it means less editing work for them, easier to fill the remaining 23 days quota.

didn’t post this yesterday but i enjoyed the vid! dan rushing ahead irritated me a tad because in the original shelter series what i enjoyed was how phil was always checking on the babies and actively considering them whilst dan just ran off and was more concerned about catching food/progressing to the next stage. that probably says a bit about their personalities.

that being said, the bants was v good in this vid. “where’s my mcflurry” was a personal highlight along with phil’s david attenborough commentary and the PETA joke lmaoo.

is it just me that isn’t overly bothered by uploading times? i mean, you don’t need to watch it as soon as it’s posted so if they posted whilst i was asleep (which, tbf, is unlikely bc dnp and i have the same shit sleeping patterns) it would just be a nice morning surprise imo.

Yeah I wish they uploaded at a different time as well but not everyone can be satisfied I suppose. I also wish they didn’t only livestream on Saturday’s like the only reason the last one was on Sunday was because of Phil being out of town. Like I work every Saturday so always miss them.

For me the uploading time just is v bad for my sleeping (GMT +2), last night it was 11pm for me and I have no self control when it comes to Deppy it seems. I'd be perfectly okay to watch them with my breakfast but if I'm awake when the video gets uploaded, I can't just leave it, and when I know it's coming, I can't just forget about it.

See I’m not overly fussed about when they upload I guess if I was on Australian time i would be but you can watch it at any time, it’s not like you do have to watch it the second it’s uploaded. It’s the same when people tweet dan saying can he not do a live show because they won’t be able to watch it live. It’s a little strange because it is on YouTube and you can watch it when your next free.

I hope people don’t go spamming them when they haven’t uploaded by a saspific time, I saw some people doing it yesterday and they didn’t even upload it late. I think giving them trying to put up a video everyday leading up to Christmas they should get a pass on how late they upload and people should just consider it lucky if we get it before 12am

nah, I just kind of assume Dan's busy playing guild wars or whatever and Phil is picking up all the slack, just like he's also doing the editing and even promo-ing on Dan's behalf. I hope Dan buys him a pizza at some point.
