About their friendship with Felix - Dan and Phil seem a lot more forgiving then I could ever be. Especially as his actions will have inadvertently affected their livelihoods.
A lot of YouTube seems to be furious with him. His comments were offensive, racist and have been a big factor as to why the Adpocalypse happened and is still happening.
(Just in case anyone isn't in the know and wants info about the apocalypse on YouTube atm) He hurt and upset a lot of people with his racism and his actions have had a knock on affect for the livelihoods of thousands of content creators on Youtube. He is unfortunately the face of YouTube, it's biggest success story, so when mass media got wind of his offensive comments right after they found ads on a video linked to terrorism the advertisers panicked and the adpocalypse was born. Demonetising anything not deemed "ad friendly". Some channels particularly gaming, history, lgbt+ channels or channels regularly adressing social issues etc have been affected the worst. Some smaller channels have been financially ruined by this.
Part of this is YouTube's fault for not removing problem channels and instead relying on an algorithm to fix their problems, but on the other hand Felix has proven again that he's a goddamn liability and I agree with others that you don't yell a word like that in the heat of the moment if it's not already a part of your vocabulary. He's not a man who wants to learn from his actions and I won't be surprised if it happens again. To be honest, I would not be sad if he were banned from the platform but YouTube will never have the balls to do it as then his 40mil sub count would move permenantly to Twitch.
I'm genuinely curious as to how much this has all been affecting Dan and Phil though. Especially as they're not the only gaming channel that have suddenly, coincidently started gaming livestreams in the last few months to try and counteract the losses.
At least they don't have to worry about having more than 10,000 followers before they can look to appeal a video being demonitised. But I was watching a guy who stated that if a video is flagged and not appealed quickly enough then you've lost the majority of your earnings. A video makes the most money within the first 48 hours it's uploaded.
And I wonder how Dan and Phil's older videos are fairing as you need at least 1000 views within the last 7 days before YouTube will even look at it. So older vids that may have been blocked for whatever reason
(horror and gore in spooky week/dan's potty mouth/ordinary video game violence/a silly crude joke/social issues being mentioned/the list goes on) may be permenantly demonetised and ad revenue from the rewatches lost.
I'm surprised they are spending time with him again, and I'm not convinced Dan's actually going to have words with Felix. Though I get he's probably saying it so the fans don't tear him to shreds over it. And it will be Dan that gets the brunt of it even if both he and Phil go.
It is what it is unfortunately, but I understand people are feeling hurt and upset by this and it's perfectly valid to feel that way. Don't let people tell you otherwise.

I'll go back to lurking in my cave now.
