I liked this video! I wonder if he rewatched Phil's version before filming because Phil related his pain threshold to dentist visits as well.. but obviously with the opposite take. Honestly though I kind of wish this had been a #spon (uh and posted a week ago) because I just bought one of those kits last week (hasn't come yet but I'm weirdly looking forward to putting a tube of my spit in the mail..? idk why.
also: bills? what bills? the heart wants what it wants). I know there was nothing that new or groundbreaking (
does everything need to be?! not sure where the need to first downplay the ~value of enjoying 10mins of entertainment is coming from

) but it was entertaining and 'scrape me daddy' in a main channel vid is :vewynice:

If you compare this to his last video that didn't require a lot of planning and a creative process and that Phil had done before (aka the quiz one), his attitude to making a "low quality" video was completely different. I wonder if it's because he was able to tie it to a relevant subject and used that to justify the low effort video (to himself), or if he's just in so much less stress now and able to think simpler. Or both!
Guess I'll know better when we hear how he talks about it in ls.
I hope it's both! Low effort/high effort doesn't really mean anything if everybody is using different definitions- like it's an "easy" idea in that Phil (and the rest of YT) have done it already, but he didn't
just sit there and read out percentages, he put his own spin on it to make it timely etc what everyone else already said and I guess if it's not a 100% original idea it can just be called filler, but I mean... idk. I don't think his 'quality threshold' thing is so much about having an original idea and using it to make The Best And Most Original Thing Ever, but about doing something original/meaningful-in-some-way-to-
him and dinof-y
with an idea (whether it's "just a" tag vid or not) and imo he did that here. I know he's set himself up for harsher criticism and higher expectations (making my earlier question rhetorical because I know where the need comes from, in theory), but I think even with that, the audience multiplies it unnecessarily. If that even made sense, look I'm tired.
With that said, if he tries to downplay it himself in some way in his liveshow (if he does one) I'll sigh. What a threat.

with respect to that there's also the question as to who actually wishes for which extent of promotion -- would everyone they collab with want them to spon the heck out of it, or would some youtubers actually not be keen on getting a singular peak in their viewer statistics on a single video with no long-term effect at all? is the extent of promotion something they discuss beforehand when they do a collab?
tl;dr dark dan and phil, show me your forbidden social skills
ps fancybum i miss your old avatar but the new one is great too. also i am immensely pleased that your user rank takes up exactly as much space as your user name.
Yeah Dan's comment about fans ruining every comment section about something he mentions kind of crossed my mind, so maybe they're a bit wary of dragging 'outsiders' too far in to this hellhole we all inhabit (..said with love..?). But maybe that's a stretch, because money's money even if it comes with a hefty dose of cringe and it really just comes down to not wanting to appear to favour/promo anybody too much (or even make themselves look too #sponny in their own self-interest)? So many factors, who knows!
ps I didn't have my old avatar in my phone and the blank space was making me sad, so Chris w kitty was the next best thing. They can stay for a bit.
