Can we talk about something else for a sec? I am confused about these recent ship names. It seems pretty much established that the ship name for Dan/Anthony is Danthony (sounds logical too), but I've seen Phanthony used for both Phil/Dan/Anthony and Phil/Anthony. I also saw some alternatives for the Phil/Anthony ship name on Tumblr, like Phinthony and Panthony(???). Can someone tell me which one it is?

I've got to say that I think devoting any amount of time to trying to pin down what Marcus knows about literally anything would be an exercise in madness. This is so weird, because I fell down a shameful little rabbit-hole of watching his videos (meaning like: maybe 3 before I found an ounce of self-respect) a couple of days ago (YT was bullying me and obviously I went wrong somewhere if it's aggressively recommending me Marcus Butler's side channel, but I digress) and all I could think is: is he fucking baked out of his mind at all times? I watched one video where he was guessing the YTer by singing voice (yep, D&P were featured in the thumbnail but last in the video, shocking) and he was so fucking boring and terrible at it. And spoiler: he was confused about why Dan was staring at Phil the whole time (like do you even watch bro?), he seems to know very little and be confused by very much. I mean I don't even have the energy to be surprised anymore at the lazy click-baiting and audience-leeching BUT AT LEAST BE ENTERTAINING. MAKE AN ATTEMPT. If he's going to rip off his content from more entertaining people, maybe he could try ripping off one of their personalities while he's at it. Would that be so hard?

Tbh, Marcus's off-screen sidekick (Matt/Mark/?) is more entertaining than him.

The worst thing about Marcus' video is his derisive tone, whether he realises we're joking or not, he's just putting what he sees as the crazy-obsessives' ramblings out there for views. I watched and left a comment, if it makes any difference to him (saw him staying silent on Twitter to everyone including the author of the article on Snokoplasm). I've watched him a little here and there, he isn't very engaging and even when he's used Dan and Phil in a video/thumbnail before he's still seemed a nice guy, but this wasn't even tongue-in-cheek.

He actually seemed so low-energy i]to me in this that I wonder if he's unwell in some way. I left that out of my comment, maybe he's just in a mode of not giving any fucks or something. I'm more annoyed than with Shane or Mr Onion because I've come to except crap from them, though tbh since he's used Deps before, I suppose I shouldn't hold him to any higher standards. It seems if they just want the views, nothing's off-limits (so yeah, I gave him one more, and a dislike, maybe the comment will at least make someone think if they don't see the upset elsewhere).

Crazy that the phandom can't go very long without something happening. I was just quietly looking forward to Tomska's Tinder spon.

Here's a conspiracy theory for you: I suspect Marcus wishes he had fans as dedicated and engaged as the phandom but he doesn't, so here he is, leeching attention.

Oh dear, this happens all the fucking time. Everywhere are these reaction channels and actual peers using Deppy and other people for views. And some fans actually believe they love Deppy and are something like fans or their friends. It disgusts me. How can they look into the mirror? How are they not embarrassed? If they met Deppy in person, could they look them straight in the eye and feel comfortable? Do they even care? Do they not realise how wrong their behaviour is? I guess where there's popularity and creativity, there will always be those who try and use other people's popularity and/or steal their content. Do you own thing people, then you can be proud of your achievements and the fact that you actually worked hard for something. But who am I telling this, most or all of you agree and I guess I'm just hoping someone lurks here and actually considers that what they're doing is wrong. I'm not optimistic enough to believe this is actually going to happen.

i mean as much as it must be nice to have people buy any ugly merch you put out and locate your hotel room in minutes to decide whether or not you're sharing a bed, i dont think other youtubers who are getting plenty of views, sponsorships and tv/book offers are that jealous of the fact that d+p have more 15 years olds writing headcanons about them or bringing them flower crowns to wear. they're also getting paid, also getting opportunities, they dont need the worlds remaining fall out boy fans to watch any more than they need to relate themselves to any other famous youtuber

d+p both used to namedrop and generally bring up charlieissocoollike and nerimon every second video when they were the top uk youtubers. there's really nothing special about mentioning d+p, that's just a thing that's always happened.

it's odd to actually think that Marcus knows them in person. he has met them loads of times, has talked to them and he himself must have some sort of relationship with his audience to know mocking them isn't the way to go and that this can be quite hurtful to the creators themselves...
to be completely honest, I think people who do react videos or mostly content based on other creators are only in it for the wrong reasons...
I saw a few comments on the video saying Marcus used to be a good youtuber, so my guess is that he either ran out of ideas or isn't as passionate as before but, hey, if it's getting him money, he might as well continue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think you can't really compare YouTube back then and YouTube today. Back then it was a hobby, today it is more of a business. And even the more popular YouTubers back in the day were not really that big or ever expected to make loads of money and get brand deals. I don't think they expected to blow up and calculated that mentioning a bunch of YouTubers would make them relevant. And also, there's a difference between name-dropping someone a bunch of times and literally putting them in your title and thumbnail and making whole videos just about them.

Besides, I am not a fan of the mentality "if xy does/did this, I can do too"

while i agree with this it does seem like the people who name drop dan and phil *cough* onision are the people who's youtube glory days are over. marcus's views just a few years ago were in the millions, now he's lucky if he gets to 500,000.

There's a difference in Dan name dropping nerimon when both of those guys were publicly identifying as straight and not together, and in Dan and Phil with their ambiguously ~whatever duo-ship. People like Shane, Marcus, and Onision know exactly what kind of fire they're playing with and they don't have enough personal respect for Dan and Phil to consider their sexuality/relationship off limits. The 'other people did it too' or 'other people did it worse' argument will always exist, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating and annoying.

- Phil did a liveshow (short but sweet, nothing particularly noteworthy happened)
- they released new merch after it was accidentally leaked early (pastel blue backpack, black sparkly backpack, pastel poster; Japan discourse ensued)
- Anthony uploaded a vid with Phil
- and now Marcus Butler has uploaded a vid on his second channel in which he presents a bunch of inside-jokey dnp conspiracy theories without context, to portray dnp's viewers as crackpots and belittle teenage girls I guess??

I haven't watched the vid, but I do agree that this was completely tacky/tasteless of Marcus. He's trash as it is and doesn't deserve defending (anyone remember his racist snapchat with the emoji of the black woman and the watermelon?), but I think it's undeniable that his once obsessive fanbase has rapidly declined.

You can't deny that Dan and Phil have potentially the most loyal and obsessive fanbase of any UK youtuber, and while obviously there are a lot of downsides that come with such a fanbase, youtubers with declining views are surely envious of the fact that the phandom will watch pretty much anything dnp put out. There's a reason youtubers like Marcus so frequently try and make their content relate to Dan and Phil, and it's because they see an opportunity to cash in on such a large, dedicated fanbase.

By the sound of it, Marcus ripped some of the conspiracies word-for-word from articles/threads that were purposefully tongue-in-cheek and erased their tone to make them seem serious. There is a huge difference to me between fans on the internet theorising jokingly as a form of entertainment, and a colleague ripping off these theories as a way to trash the fans while simultaneously capitalising off them.

Not to mention I doubt Dan and Phil would be that thrilled by it.

honestly - this is what i would talk to d&p about. these kiddos who weren't even walking yet during the early-mid 2000s acting like edge lords for liking mainstream pop punk. the mcr/panic!/fall out boy stuff makes me laugh so much bc even back then i (and many "emo/scene/indie/ whatever" peeps) pretended to hate them bc they were "sell outs" since everyone and their brother liked pop punk.

as to marcus - how odd must it feel to have people you know socially make videos about you? i hope the lads have therapists. you would need to process this crap with someone. i totally feel sorry for them - they can't trust anyone. they must walk into a YT convention and feel like everyone has speculated behind their back. it reminds me of the stereotypical high school movie where the girl walks into school and everyone is whispering about her sex life behind her back/ she knows people have forwarded her nudes around or something.

So I posted about this in January the last time I saw Marcus using Deppy as clickbait on his sad-attempt of side channel videos, essentially trying to rip off Shane Dawson's video format.

This now makes 8 videos in the span of about 2 years that have used Dan and/or Phil in the thumbnail (along with many other Youtubers) to get views. The thing that pisses me off is that not only are Dan and Phil aware that this happens, but Dan literally called Onision out about it and talked about how it bothers him and Phil.

It honestly makes me feel sad to see this is how low Marcus is going to stoop just to try to grasp at SOME sort of relevancy on Youtube. The entire concept pisses me off as is, just on the basis of being a decent fucking human and not making a video about your colleagues who you literally have met and hung out with multiple times...but the fact he is making MONEY off of these videos. I feel like a lot of the time the amount of cash earned is forgotten.

SoOoOoOo I decided to do a little math just to piss myself off a little more (cause why not). From the 7 videos on "MoreMarcus" that include Dan and Phil in the thumbnail when they aren't in the video- assuming the CPM (cost per thousand) of the videos was $1.50- means Marcus has made just a little over $10,000. But, that is using the average CPM...it can range to as high as $7.00. Top creators with higher subscriber counts are given more opportunities with advertisers within their accounts (PewDiePie has talked about it a few times- when his controversy happened he was pulled from Youtube's elite ad program). And that is not including the 8th video he uploaded yesterday, which has earned him about $100 on its first day of upload (again, that's assuming he has a CPM of $1.50...but then again that also doesn't consider use of adblock, etc). Well now that my little hate party is over I'm going to go watch some gaming vids, hoping we get an upload tomorrow (Sims extreme home makeover pleaseeeeee).

I've just finished playing Dream Daddy and, my god, the things I would do for them to play it as a series. I don't have high hopes though as this game is somewhere along the lines of My Horse Prince and they almost didn't even finish that. I don't think they'll play any dating simulators anytime soon.

They better upload a DAPG video soon. What else will Dan really talk about in his liveshow on Tuesday if they don't? Or maybe they're going to upload on Tuesday and Dan will use it as an excuse to not to a liveshow.
