I wonder how they even found this, as far as I can see the girl who runs the thing didn't tag the YTers directly. But I love the idea!Appa wrote:onetruetrash wrote: This whole thread making stan twitter go wild

I hadn't seen Phil's reply, that's wonderful, and the most likely reason. Evan replied too

I love that so many youtubers are getting in on this murder mystery game! That's amazing.
Phil liking the condom statistic tweet - that seemed to really be perplexing people on tumblr. I actually had one person ask me if that meant Phil was probably having straight sex. I have to admit I did a double take at Phil liking the tweet, but honestly if they want to go in the direction of pointing more of their teenage fanbase towards accurate sex ed info... by all means, guys, use that platform. Even super subtly.

The backpacks are cute, but I always kinda cringed at the whole 'japhan' thing. Why was that one trip so significant to merch designs? I'd understand more if it was a limited edition thing for just like the first 2 months after the trip, but 2 years?
i'm completely in love with all the custom deppy emojis on this site, someone download them onto my phone please

I really love things like this - I remember back in the early 00s' a Lord of the Rings RPF based one, it was held on an actual website since social media wasn't quite what it is now but there were livejournal communities for people to theorize and speculate. I'm really impressed that it's working so well with the twitter format!Catallena wrote:I was waiting for the phandom/YouTube in general to get in on the murder mystery hype after having seen all the kpop versions that were made after the original got so much hype and it didn't disappoint.

can i just point out that they went to japan the week of April 10 2015 and then singapore also april 10 2017. and both of these trips have been very sketchy. what if one of them proposed in japan and so the week of april 10 is now forever some sort of anniversary
edit: what were they doing april 2016? they were on tour right?

I saw this and thought for sure this would be like Shane's video but when I watched it (on Adblock Bc lol I don't want him getting money for this), it's literally the funny theories we in the phandom talk about, nothing like Shane talked about. The first two are literally from an article called 5 Worryingly Convincing Phandom Conspiracy Theories. Then the last 2 minutes is literally from the subtopic on here for the conspiracy theories. He literally read the name of the thread and briefly read though a few of the theories we've discussed. Some included phil being a furry (he didn't know what a furry was and had to google it), to getting married in Vegas or Japan, to a brief mention of the rules, to finally him reading about lube gate and being confused. I was literally cringing throughout the whole thing because he was so annoying and like that's all of the phandom's inside jokes. I'm not linking the actual video on here because it's not really worth wasting 8 minutes of your life seeing someone react to another person's fandom for no reason, but anything to get those views and money.

I'm cringing already. I haven't watched it and I'm not going to.
I suddenly went on a thought spiral and wondered what would do if their audience collectively lost interest. I don't think they'd stoop so low as to feature other popular youtubers in their thumbnails and share conspiracy theories about them for views... would they even care if their views went down? Would they continue to do what they like anyway without caring what people think? Would they post more clickbait to try and win views? Would they jump ship and find work elsewhere? Maybe the decreased viewing would lessen the pressure and Dan would make more stuff that he likes without striving for absolute perfection? I'm sure they must have thought of a Plan B or an exit plan from YouTube but for now they're still going strong with a dedicated fan base and more people arriving than there are leaving, though now it may have evened out already. I hope they continue making videos for a long time.

I had a similar thought this April when they were in Singapore, so I went through and read the many, many pages of the IDB thread from April 9-11 2016, and the general consensus was that Phil flew to Florida on the 9th to vacation with his family, and left Dan behind (based on a Phil "USA! Pancakes! Eagles! Freedom!" tweet and Dan tweeting like Phil was away). Then, on the 10th, Dan (presumably) uploaded a Sims video, which some people speculated was the reason he was still in London, since they wanted to get it up before starting the US tour.darque_red wrote: can i just point out that they went to japan the week of April 10 2015 and then singapore also april 10 2017. and both of these trips have been very sketchy. what if one of them proposed in japan and so the week of april 10 is now forever some sort of anniversary

Then, on the morning of the 11th, YouTube tweeted that Dan was doing something at the London YT Space , so yeah he definitely was still in the UK. And on the 12th he tweeted about breaking in to his neighbors' to play with the dog, and someone posted a selfie with him in London, however, he didn't have a liveshow. Then some more people spotted him in London on the 13th/14th. Then, on the 15th, someone alleged she met him at an airport, and he posted about falling asleep while eating peanuts (which might imply being on a plane.) Then, on the 16th, he confirmed he was in Florida by tweeting about buying his Gatorland hat.
TL;DR: the time period around April 10th, they were on separate continents, while Phil was vacationing with only his parents and Martyn. Then, Dan joined them on the 16th and they vacationed a bit together before PlaylistLive the next week (I think) and the US tour after that, and Cornelia also joined them.

i watched marcus' video (the last two minutes) and cracked up that he read the first page of IDB, hope he stuck around and made an account to join in with the conspiracies. The best bit was when he mentioned lubegate, he even agreed it was lube in his case

Did he literally just go through IDB within the past few days? I posted the link to the article a few days ago, I guess he was looking through this thread an saw it. I'm trying to figure out why the Marcus thing is bothering me so much, given that it seems to have been fairly tame in content... I think I saw people talking about this some time ago, so please feel free to ignore I'm just venting a bit.
We all speculate, all over the internet. We all join in on the kinda inappropriate jokes because they'e made with great affection and in a setting that is theoretically not somewhere deppy would be unless they were out looking for such things. When Marcus and other well known YouTubers drag those jokes and discussions onto their platform they are making what was said in 'private' (I know, it's the internet, it's not really private) out into a sphere where Dan and Phil might find it hard to avoid, and where people who are not as fond of them as we are and might not understand will get to weigh in.
He is not a fan, he is a peer, and even in a way co-worker of theirs and this sort of thing is just so rude and unprofessional. I'm not like, frothing with rage or anything, I'm just really disappointed and suffering some second hand embarrassment.
Marcus, mate, since you've been lurking -- that was a dumbass, desperate move. There are better ways to get views. Do some creative brainstorming or something.

Totally agree. When Shane did it, it was still wrong but at least he didn't make a video that was specifically about dan and phil; he mentioned them. Marcus has made an 8 minute video purely about them and is going to make money off it for doing nothing more than reading a few theories online about people who he is barely friends with. I know I'd be pissed af if someone I wasn't close with was making money based on content about me. At least he didn't post it onto his main channel, so that's something, I suppose.SneakyLizard wrote:I'm trying to figure out why the Marcus thing is bothering me so much, given that it seems to have been fairly tame in content... Not a huge fan of Marcus' video, but I do secretly like the thought of Youtubers just hanging around on IDB.
what does this video of Marcus' make people think he knows about Dan and Phil? (if) they are together do people think Marcus knows and doesn't care or somehow got permission from them? or does he not know and really think it's all a joke?

Here's a conspiracy theory for you: I suspect Marcus wishes he had fans as dedicated and engaged as the phandom but he doesn't, so here he is, leeching attention.
