I feel the same way about the comment, however, the context of that scene was dan playing as a piece of bread. I'm going to assume that it was still about the bread being sliced, I guess? The comment is still very side eye and very distasteful, but with context, I don't know, it feels a tad bit less offensive to me. Even though I'm still really annoyed with it. that literally killed the video vibe for me personally. Phil made it a bit sweeter and the end of the gameplay was so stressful honestly. Phil was really funny with his commentary and being so into it while Dan was close to rage quitting. I especially enjoyed the moment in the beginning though, where they were being domestic about their superior choice of fancy bread compared to the rest of the pleb population.

A coalition would basically be where two parties join together to rule government (which was what occured in 2010 between the Tory's and the Lib-Dems). This Union is basically Theresa May saying that they'll have the support of the UDL in parliament. Problem is, because Tory's rely on them now to pass things through, they may have to accept somethings the UDL wants to pass through, because now they have control over them (hopefully they'll still reject some of the more extremist, anti-lgbt+, anti-abortion policies).cringemonkey wrote:I'm glad about parliament as well !! Seems like it was an offhand comment that came out wrong due to the context - careless, but not intentional. Although, younger Dan was more prone to making those sorts of jokes, so it could've been a bit of that side slipping out.

Secondly, the intro was cute when they simultaneously popped up. I found the lil info about their choice of "whole-grain, seedy bread" cool (I'm personaly a white bread lover myself - don't like the taste or texture of brown bread)
My two fave moments:
8:29 - The way Phil is so shocked and scared by the bread and almost grabs Dan and shakes him is so funny - especially when his hands just hover mid-air for a moment in shock.

I see they're keeping their videos slightly shorter, the ones between 10-15 minutes seem to do better than extensively long ones imo.

I'd like to talk about two ways in which I think that position is misguided. (Note: I personally think everyone should vote—I fundamentally endorse any get-out-the-vote effort, even if I think the reasoning behind it is misguided.)
First, a lot has been made of the significance of getting out the “young people” to vote in both the UK election and the recent US presidential election: young people as a group are politically liberal, though of course not every young person is. So, statistically speaking, as the proportion young people casting votes increases, the proportion of liberal votes increases. Arguably, if more young people had voted in the US presidential election, the results would have been different.
Second, suggesting that liberal/progressive/left-leaning views reside only in the young begs the question of how anything progressive was ever accomplished before now. Left-wing heros like Jeremy Corbyn and Bernie Sanders are surely “old people”, and maybe this should serve a clue that progressive people are perfectly capable of being old—and have been around being progressive for a while.
I could make more points, but I think I've sufficiently tested the patience of IDB (and Dan? Lol) with my academic-sounding rant on a slow day on the forum. I'd love to hear from anyone else on any of this (and we could always move to the social-political thread). I will say in closing that I do think that social tolerance and acceptance of more and more differences does seem to be making linear forward progress, and while I'm sure there will be inevitable setbacks, I can hope that all the “young people” will make tolerance a thing to stay.
