Yeah, he keeps tweeting while I'm scrolling. I'm trying to unlock myself from app-rotation hell and go get more done
I think this one may have been more "for the public", judging by their expressions and poses, but I may be wrong.lilabet wrote:I'm finding it really funny that Dan does the peace signs even in family photos
Bummed about no LS today, but not surprised. This also means no joint LS, if Dan was planning on doing his on Tuesday.
I'm living for the matching freckly pictures! Well okay, not exactly matching, but the pictures of the same subject has got be intentional.
I'm looking forward to Phil's LS on Sunday, it should be fun and there's a lot of stuff he could talk about. Since Dan is doing his next Tuesday, I wonder if we'll get any new content between now and mid-next week... Since Dan acknowledged that he didn't initially plan on staying so long after Playlist, it seems like their pre-filmed stuff was calculated for Phil's absence exactly.

Wow, the last solo Phil live show was on 16th March...no wonder it feels like forever ago! Wonder if he'll stream it from the old sofa in the nook or on his bed. Annoyingly I'll be in a campervan without wifi/electricity on Sunday evening but maybe there'll be enough of a mobile signal to still be able to watch it on my phone.

Have we seen the grey sofa already? Maybe the same living room as the fluffy footstall? How many living rooms does one house need? I'm not bitter at all.
I'm looking forward to Phil's liveshow - I wonder if he'll do it in a different area of the house (I'm guessing he'll stick to the same room as the joint one to minimize how much of the new place he shows us but I can dream), or at least show us a bit more of the finished room.
Re the stalking conversation, obviously far from acceptable, but she's a 12 year old girl, not exactly a mad axe murderer, and I feel bad that she's been bullied off Twitter. Correct me if I'm wrong, and this doesn't make it right, but it doesn't look as though she shared that conversation with her followers either - the attention seemed to be for the benefit of the group chat, so someone else must have posted it to 'out' her. I get she needed to learn her lesson but I'm far more concerned with her dad for letting her go through with it, though it's plausible she she may have lied about where they were going exactly.
It's unfortunate but I doubt this was the first time Deppy have had people come to their front door or had things posted to them. I hope they can keep their privacy for as long as possible in their new place but someone will probably figure it out eventually.
Speaking of crossing lines with the things we discuss, I take it that even if they posted a video of themselves outside in what appears to be their residential area, we wouldn't publicly speculate about where it is? Or if someone 'spotted' them coming out of their house and took creepshots, we wouldn't post them here? I'm a nosy motherfucker so obviously I wanna know but this forum has the potential to reach a lot of people.

Re: Stalking
A lot has been said already, so this is probably just repitition, but it gives me a sick feeling in my stomach to think of someone actually stalking deppy to the point of finding their home and sending them letters and stuff. I agree with people here that you shouldn't actually blame the twelve year old girl though, but the father. I just remember that when I was 12, I was obsessed with some stars as well, and I didn't spend many thoughts about how they need their privacy, too. If I had gotten the possibility to visit my favorite stars' home, omg, I wouldn't have hesitated for even a second.
After all, it would have been the father's job to explain why stalking is wrong, instead of supporting the idea.
Some people brought up that we (the IDBlers) are also overstepping the line of privacy. I think the difference is that we're discussing everything in a very... reasonable and kind way, and we are respectful in the way we analyze stuff, if that makes sense. None of us would, for example, write D&P something on twitter like "you're lying about Phil's room and we know it!!!", which would be very unnecessary. We are just talking about the possibility that Phil's new room might be a set, as it pretty much seems like one. I think we as an audience are not forced to take everything they tell us at face value, and it's a good thing to scrutinise things. Also, at least for me, it's just fun to play detective sometimes
I don't think it would change much for deppy if we found undeniable proof that the bedroom is a set. So what? That would only tell us for sure that Phil likes to have his own camera-absent private room, too, might it be in the form of sharing one with Dan or having his own space. I don't think any of us would judge them for "lying" if they wanted to hide that. I just don't see how it would harm them in any way, which is why I have no problem with discussing bedgate, and feel like it's something completely different to showing up in front of their apartment.

So no video to make up for the lack of a liveshow? Kinda disappointed, but we got some cute pictures, so it's not that bad.

I'm sure they've run out of pre-recorded gaming videos by now and are too tired to film. Hopefully a gaming video this weekend thoughonetruetrash wrote:So no video to make up for the lack of a liveshow? Kinda disappointed, but we got some cute pictures, so it's not that bad.

With the stalking situation... that's crazy. Imagine how terrifying it must be to have strangers send you stuff in the post! You don't know how threatening/non-threatening they are. I'm glad they've moved - I really hope no one finds their address this time :/ tbh they were pretty careless in the old flat as I suppose they had a much smaller following when they first moved there. So hopefully it'll be much harder for anyone to find this time.
But there's a huge instance of parental enabling there I think. She's 12 - she's not quite old enough to know better, and the line between YTer/fan probably seems really blurred at that age.
It also didn't sound like she lived in London, so her parents took her up there TWICE to go stalk some Youtubers, walked around the area for two hours... and took her back the second time to get a specific pistachio muffin?! My dad would have told me to eff off if I'd tried to get him to do anything like that when I was that age.
Other things:
- I'm living for the freckles by Dan's eyes.
- As someone who's TERRIFIED of customs/border control/visa stuff, that whole video gave me real anxiety.
- I really enjoyed reading everyone's views on the emo boys flirting/kissing discussion and I'm glad that I wasn't the only one that sort of lumped D&P in with that category to start with!

exactly! when i was that age, my mum got annoyed if i even asked her to drive me to the shopping center at that age, and that was only 5 miles away. the kid's parents must either just not care, or she lied about who lived there (maybe she said it was a friend her age? idk, my mum still wouldn't have gone for that). either way, yikes.blackdenim wrote:It also didn't sound like she lived in London, so her parents took her up there TWICE to go stalk some Youtubers, walked around the area for two hours... and took her back the second time to get a specific pistachio muffin?! [offtopic]What do you think are the odds that they will go to other yt conventions this year, like the Australian ones?
Because there is this Finnish event that I think is nowadays the biggest one in Europe, and this is the first time since 2014 when it isn't on the same weekend as SITC. That year they had Emma Blackery and since then the event has grown and had nearly 20 000 visitors last year. The Finnish Phandom was kinda vocal about themselves last winter when they went to Stockholm but not Helsinki (if anyone remembers the LS chat spamming until noticed). So I think it would be plausible, if they need income if they want to visit more places this year and the mystery project in August doesn't crash with it.[/offtopic]

Overstepping the line of privacy? Wow, that's a stretch to assume, especially since the rules do not allow us to do anything creepy. Discussing/speculating is one thing, but posting creep-shots is another.loonyradish wrote: Re: Stalking

I don't think the speculation is overstepping anything, because we are speculating on what they are showing us. It's not like we are going thru their trash or mail or sitting in an airport for nearly three days waiting for them to come through, we are having a conversation based on what we have seen or been told by Dip and Dot themselves.
I find IDB on the way lower side of crazy. If I want wacky, I go to tumblr. If I want batshit insane, I go to Twitter. Obviously the Phandom has its degrees of insanity.

Since there's no new content on the horizon I guess I can make another post regarding the whole stalking/overstepping privacy thing.
From what I've read in you guys' responses, the thing everyone seems uncertain about is what the standard is for what is ok and what is not. One person mentioned legal boundaries. Another person asked for what the forum rules perceived as out-of-line. Others saw it as a more nebulous border and go with what the majority perceives as appropriate behaviour.
I am not sure where I am getting at with this, but I thought it was an interesting observation. We all have different ways of evaluating (and justifying) our behaviour.

Without seeing everything that goes on both on Tumblr and Twitter, I don't think either are crazy, but passionate and easily carried away by cuteness, shipping and drama. IDB is generally somewhat calmer, but I'm often not sure of a firm line here with speculation and investigation. I'm as curious as the next about some things and ignore the rest, this is our forum and it has its rules, but we're talking about all kinds of things in two people's lives (that they show us, of course).

I was rewatching Dan's June 18, 2013 ls and he mentioned his favorite song by Disclosure was You and Me. Am I the only one here who looks up the lyrics of the songs he mentions liking and analyzes them? These lyrics seem really applicable to Deppy (especially the bold part) but surprisingly no one has made a Phan edit.

I think the problem is that everyone has a different perception of where to draw the line, so the only people who could tell us what's okay and what isn't for them are deppy. As we can't ask them (or we can, but I doubt we would get an answer), we have to define it by ourself and on our own view. We all agree that stalking them at home is definitely on the "not okay"-side, and so is basically everthing not allowed on the forum (giving away private information about their families etc).flarequake wrote:Without seeing everything that goes on both on Tumblr and Twitter, I don't think either are crazy, but passionate and easily carried away by cuteness, shipping and drama. But everything else is quite unsure. I got the impression that both d&p are amused by a lot of the conspiracy theories about them though, especially Dan. When he talks about his fans theorizing on tumblr, twitter and so on, he mostly does it in this tone that I'd use when my best friend does something stupid or crazy: "You're an idiot, but I love you anyways". What I mean is, he isn't really angry or annoyed by it. Tbh, I get the impression that he enjoys reading our theories ("ours" as in "Phans", not especially "IDBlers").
(Sorry for leaving Phil out, but it's just so much easier to analyse Dan).
Btw, did Dan ever mention IDB in any of his livestreams? Because I feel like he did, but I'm not quite sure

Yeah, I guess we do have our own opinions on it, partly why I chimed in.
Dan hasn't mentioned IDB of his own accord (neither has Phil), but he's given a few shoutouts when people sent messages asking him to.

I love analyzing and theorizing about music in this context. I was going to post about how I've been associating Muse's 'Uprising' in my head with deppy and the phandom, (I can picture a whole music video featuring Dan's power kicks) but I think it might be better to carry the conversation over on the D&P Music thread: http://indepthbants.com/topic450.htmlSusanisnotafish wrote:I was rewatching Dan's June 18, 2013 ls and he mentioned his favorite song by Disclosure was You and Me.
