just showing up to say that i really, really miss the liveshows. especially the individual ones, it's been so long (although i am never one to turn down a joint one, let's be honest).
i just love listening to them doing their own individual things, dan ramble about culture and his interests for an hour, being sweet and a brat and passionate, and always so in on the fandom and so perceptive. and i miss phil doing his fun little "segments", with his kind ways and him actually appreciating compliments, and how he makes me feel so light for the entire time i watch him.
I MISS THEM.

but also bless them for taking so much time off and enjoying their family holiday, i mean they can take their time, i am not going anywhere

I'm still quite shaken by the news, so many young people affected, I feel so sorry for everyone families and friends but to see so many reports on solidarity from Manchester citizens there is so much hope in them

Mine was through Dan's "Meaning of Life" video, which probably says a lot about me aha
i was aware of them since like 09 or whenever but i never really watched them. but then a friend recommended one of their sims videos to me years later bc i love the sims. and so then i watched more on their gaming channel until eventually i got sucked into watching literally anything i could find of them on youtube lol. i just started watching their livestreams this year and have watched their joint videos multiple times.
I have started following Dan's videos around beginning of 2014 (I think) after seeing Existential crisis (or Meaning of Life, don't remember precisely anymore). I knew about Dan and Phil because of tumblr already before and might have clicked their vid that they did with charlieissocoollike (cause I found out about youtubers and charlie because of Stephen Fry), but I wasn't very interested in youtube in those days. But then I was at a very bad spot in my life (one of many) and youtube suggested to me the crisis/meaning video and I watched it and was surprised how much I relate to something made by someone so younger. (so I do like the relatable content cause it helped and helps) And then I went through all the sketch vids, which were great, really funny, loved the stories and the editing. I really think the best content was 2013. I tried to watch Phil (and failed..), but then much later not sure if on tumblr or via yt recommendation I got to old Phils videos and I really like those (also the Badger simulator helped) so from then on I added him to my watch list too (but I haven't seen all of his videos, and I haven't seen all of the gaming ones either and I refuse to catch up with all that Sims stuff, but I have seen PT probably 20 times and whole complete Undertale like 10times)

[offtopic]now that someone mentioned superamazingproject - I still haven't watched more than half a video or so from the channel, and it appears that you guys don't talk much about it. Is it worth watching it? Do you have a favorite "episode" you would recommend?[/offtopic]

I was just watching some dnp highlights when I heard the moment Dan possibly decided to rebrand to Daniel howell (instead of Dan). I found it very funny to look back at considering he actually did it, which I never expected at the time when hearing him talk about it. It gives it a whole new context :D

[offtopic]Their last few episodes were the funniest. I don't remember the names of them episodes though. All the episodes were really funny IMO.
I'd say to give them a watch.

Unrelated, but in one of the episodes, Phil uses a little owl toy and as soon as I saw it, I was shook because I coincidentally had the same owl toy because I randomly found it around two years ago.[/offtopic]

my usual answer is that my sister found them through charlieissocoollike and showed them to me in 2012. but i thought i recognized phil when she showed me, and now i have confirmation! i found my old diary from 2007 (when i was a tiny child, age 11), and i mentioned phil :o and then i looked in a later diary, and i apparently saw pinof 1 when it first was posted! (and wrote "phil made a video with his new boyfriend, they're cute" )

so basically apparently i subbed in 2007, and forgot them when i lost that account (in 2010).
That's adorable. How perceptive of your younger self.

I'm very new, only been watching for half a year. I saw gifs on Tumblr and the baking videos were my gateway drug, so it's always been the two of them for me, but I enjoy both of their individual channels. And of course I had to go digging deep. Whoops.

I have mixed feelings about the superamazingproject. It's one of the last things I decided to look into of theirs and I've probably watched about a quarter or a third of the episodes (but I'm not sure). It can be quite random and a bit cringe, but offers an interesting insight into their early working dynamic so I would definitely give it a shot. I've actually been wanting to ask if others have favorite episodes as well. I'd start with the first one because tan!Dan, Dan denying Phil a hamster and Manchester apartment nostalgia. It's quite short. I like the holiday ones as well.

Do you guys think we'll get a liveshow today? Because it's 3 am here and I really want to sleep already.

Do we even know if they're home yet? It sounds like they are, but are we sure? Also they might still be upset about the Manchester bombing and/or people might keep talking about it in the chat.

Makes a whole lot of sense. Thanks for replying. Okay. I'll go sleep now. :platonic:

yeah at that point i was 13 and very aware of how most straight guys acted with friends (which was not at all how deppy acted).

but also:
i kind of grew up in the "emo kid/myspace/scene" scene and knew lots of straight guys who "flirted" or even fooled around bc the girls thought it was cool or sexy or something. i haven't seen a lot of discussion on how that actually was a thing at the time, just like straight girls making out was. but that didn't seem like the vibe deppy gave off. they seemed... joyful? when straight guys messed around it was always with about 8 layers of irony and they'd make it clear that it was just a bit of silliness, and deppy seemed to be more genuine in how they flirted. so as a young kid in that same sort of social circle, i saw them as just like me: the queer kid who could get away with flirting in public because acting vaguely queer was a fad at the time.

(edit: i say queer as a catch all for any non-hetero sexuality. if you don't like the word, sorry, but it's the label i myself use.)

although i grew up in australia, my family (and i) are originally from manchester, so, even though i was pretty sure none of my second- or third-cousins were ariana fans, i still lurked on fb until i heard they and their friends were all right.

which vaguely segues into how i found dan and phil. i don't remember exactly when but probably early 2009 i was a super casual didn't-even-subscribe fan of phil because his accent reminded me of home, then i got pregnant and had my son and got distracted by various things and it wasn't until i saw gifs from the deppy sims vids on tumblr that i realised it was the dude who i used to sometimes watch for the accent and another boy. i watched about 3 minutes and then started googling "seriously are dan and phil together" ;) and it took me another couple of years to fall completely down the rabbit hole. i blame the creation of idb tbh.

I hope I'm not too late to get in on this! I think we could all do with a cheerful chat today. I first discovered Dan's videos in 2012. "I Will Go Down with this Ship" was my first exposure to Dan and his sense of humor. I think that video was suggested or posted on Gleeforum (yes, I'm an OG gleek). I know a gif from that vid regularly appeared on the forum that year. "When did all this become so normal? Is it Glee's fault?" After that video, I became a casual Dan fan and through Dan I discovered Phil. I only became a more active fan last fall. A lot of the klainers I followed on tumblr had migrated over to the phandom, and their posts intrigued me. Now, months later, I've found myself becoming more and more

It's been a horrendous day - my friend was at the concert and is currently in hospital with severe burns and injuries, and I was waiting for her outside when everything happened. Thankfully she is likely to make a full recovery.

I will say that it's been so good to be able to escape thinking about everything that has happened by reading about everyone's experiences with finding out about d+p. For me it was kinda simple - I started watching Phil in 2008 when my cousin sent me a link to his 'Psycho Boyfriend' video, because she was at York uni at the time, and I didn't believe her when she said what had happened! I found Dan when they filmed PINOF, and I've never looked back since!

I think it was summer of 2013 and I was having a rough time in one of my ex fandoms (spoiler: it was Supernatural). I decided to click on one of Dan's videos that Youtube just wouldn't stop suggesting me - the one that was talking about fandoms and fandom drama. Obviously I could #relate at the time, so I subscribed and checked out some of his videos. I believe that the first (or one of the first) videos that I watched with both him and Phil was The Blindfolded Cat Game. They were very touchy in that one so it got me interested and I watched more of them and that was how my downwards spiral started [/offtopic]

Well, this is exciting! I still think he just went to the Bahamas to extend his travel visa, but he'd never admit that in a video. Wait, would he???

Definitely agreeing with and respecting his choice (also probably the reason there is no liveshow today then).

Really curious what's up with the BahamaDrama thing then, if it wasn't just a random visa-related trip.

[offtopic]And all the best to you and your friend, Waggle9007. I hope they make a speedy recovery.[/offtopic]

With this tweet, I can't help but feel like it is the extending his visa theory. Total reasons why dans a fail video I bet.
