I am all about that Jack/Phan friendship, so much so I rang my sister (kathrynxjane above) when j saw the tweet and started squeeing down the phone and she was having the same reaction! Sister trash

About meet and greet stuff, I have paid and queued and stage doored and award show waited many many many times and I probably will continue to do so (although my anxiety is a lot worse now than it used to be) so meeting Phil and Dan is high on my list, so much so when they announce the European tour we are planning where the cheapest flights are to meeet them

That's honestly really cute and really nice of them! Though, like, isn't it a common rule for people to not take edible gifts from fans for safety precautions...?

I always think of that story TomSka told at a panel once where a fan gave him a cake that had pubes baked into it (a panel that Dan was *at*, and Phil was listening to it from somewhere in behind the scenes) - and like, wow, surprised they'd ever eat anything fan-gifted, tbh. I mean, I guess it's nice, but it's also scary to me. I have to say, I wouldn't touch anything like that with a ten foot pole, no matter how nice the person looked or how tightly it was packaged.

Is busgate still a thing, because in the fan-shot footage filmed after their Kalamazoo show, you get a better look at the tourbus they're entering and a tiny glimpse of its interior.

(I think its the black bus with gold detail, but it's difficult to tell in such poor lighting). I'm going to assume its actually their assigned tourbus and they don't pull a switcheroo after everyone's left to throw stalkers off (you never know).

Are we sure there is a third black bus though? From this video at like 0:20 it looks like they enter the dark red bus with gold stripes, one of the original two (there's the car thing that we assumed was for merch/set behind it).

That being said, I just don't think that I'm cut out for the M&G setting. It just serves to remind me that I'm a number, one of millions when I have to really really hurry up because there's a line of a 100 other numbers behind me, just as there were a 100 others in front of me and D&P are clearly following a friendly and safe script in order to make it a good experience for me but also an efficient process (if you know what I mean). Forgive my language and I definitely don't want to insult anyone who'd like the experience but just me personally, I'd feel like cattle. And additionally, the concept of paying to just meet somebody doesn't appeal to me (obv I understand paying to see somebody's work, eg a show a movie or a concert)

I feel you with the reluctance to pay to attend a M&G. We're doing so for the first time, ever, for TATINOF. Previously, we've run across a myriad of ( YT & otherwise) celebrities in NY and London. (We never interrupt them, though. Well, but once). Our last encounter was with Joe Garrett ( "Stampy" of YT ) in London last summer. We happened to be staying in the same hotel and ran into him in the lobby. If my daughter wasn't a rabid Stampy fan, we never would've interrupted for a pic, but we did. He must've been in an unusually good mood because we made him & his girlfriend laugh a lot and they invited us to sit with them for dinner, which was lovely and pretty unforgettable for my kid (me, too, actually). However, I fear that she thinks this is a common occurrence to be able to charm your way into an hour long convo with your YT idol. I'm trying to tamp down her expectations of the D&P M&G without dampening her enthusiasm, but its pretty much a fail on my part. I kinda regret getting the M&G because I know no matter how well it goes, it won't live up to her prior experience. Or, maybe it will, who knows. But I'm doubtful.

Yeah I probably wouldn't eat things given to me by fans either, were I in their shoes, no matter how professionally done it looks. You just never know what was done with them, and while I am sure most are perfectly fine, I wouldn't ever want to have an experience such as Tomska.

Ok, I'm really into the busgate so I looked again at the company that they presumably got their buses from and I got really frustrated at that darn website..so I..started sherlocking a little. I think I may have found the blue-ish bus (?) and the red one (tho the one I found doesn't have those stripes gold but white..I think). So here are the links for them:

I'm not sure how old she is or how perceptive she is about situations like this, but if updatedphan is anything to go by most of the teenagers attending tatinof and doing the m&g don't walk away disappointed.

That's actually something that makes me really happy, tbh. I remember being 14 and my dad checking me out of school early because my favorite movie star was appearing somewhere local. (Not gonna say who, everyone would just laugh.) It was probably the most exciting day of my high school life - and really all I did was watch his show and then get an autograph, didn't even get a picture, but I didn't walk away from it disappointed because it wasn't a meaningful connection - I was just happy. He was real and I met him and he was right there in front of me and it was the best thing ever.

As an adult, I look at that situation from a different perspective and realize how ultimately insignificant meeting me was in that man's life but it doesn't retroactively destroy the excitement I had then. Remembering how that felt is one reason I look forward to updated phan retweeting all the m&g photos today. That excitement is pure and contagious, and I enjoy it secondhand still.

Out of curiosity does anyone know roughly how much to D&P will make from a Younow show? I've wondered before about how profitable they are because it does seem like most bigger youtubers don't bother with them (at least not a regular basis like D&P).

I saw somewhere it would be like $500 per LS. Not bad for an hour's work (plus I bet they get "sweeteners" from YN.) Contrast that against actually planning, shooting and editing a YT segment which takes a lot more work and time - but has inevitably has more views. I think YT pays something like $1.76 per 1,000 views.

Even though I wouldn't like to attend a M&G I agree, the enthusiasm is exciting and some of the photos are pure gold.
I enjoyed reading your story about meeting an actor; You and me agree that it's not really important he probably forgot about you in 2 minutes. What's important is how it made you feel then.
Actually, something you didn't mention (or I can't read): in the grand scheme of things, I really don't think that meeting a fan is completely insignificant. From time to time, when I'm watching deppy's M&G pictures and I start wondering about it looking mechanical, like a conveyor belt, I try to remind myself that all these encounters en masse do matter. If a performer is a moderately nice person, as I believe deppy are, they collect all these encounters in their memories and they all have a very special place in their heart. I'm sure they serve to remind them why they do what they do and give them a lot of strength. So yeah, they may forget details of a conversation and details of your face, but they do remember some snippets of some of the meetings and they do remember how all the meetings together made them feel.

We're not quite sure how "hands on" D&P are in managing the show, but this is the efficient PM in me speaking. Makes sense to have personal security close at hand, and the tour manager / Flipside rep nearby as well (but there are mobile phones...) The merch crew has a lot of back-office stuff to do, so it makes sense to keep them together, along with M&C. And the travelling tech crew probably hasn't increased in size.

That is a good point. Now that I think of it isn't there a video on twitter when Drake goes into the same bus as them? But where would be Martyn/Cornelia then? Also the tour manager (Lauren I think) is in one of the crew buses with that other crew girl whose name I forgot.
