I cracked up at Phil's hypothesis. Lovely boy.

I wasn't going to watch this one at first, as I'm not a fan of the Sleepless Night With Phil series generally and I figured this would feel just as staged. And it does, but in an intentional way that Phil is clearly acknowledging, which makes it far less cringeworthy. I'm glad everyone shared their reactions or I might not have watched it! <3

Listen, this video combined a lot of my interests in a way I didn't know I wanted them to be combined. I loved it.

Edit: I love horror stuff but there's something about Stephen King books and films that freaks me out so bad so the clips from the movie he showed where actually the scariest part of the video for me. I love that he managed to give the video a spooky atmosphere though and he made it lighthearted at the same time. It was just really good and probably my favourite Phil video in a while.

This kind of video was always going to be a tough sell for me. I wish Dan had been in it, only because I know he would have given some good, Come on, Phil. This is total BS, reactions (like this one) that I could have identified with. Nevertheless, I liked seeing Phil, and he did manage to pull a laugh from me at least once. Here are my highlights: (Note: These highlights are definitely meant to be taken v v v seriously. Definitely.)
  • [2:51] Phil foreshadows a later part of the video:
P: Now that is a snazzy shower! I’m gonna have some good times in here.
  • [6:03] Phil admits to having a medium-level fear of looking up chimneys.
  • [7:19] Phil...educates? sasses? his younger audience members:
P: So I’ve also got a retro tape recorder, which I’m pretty excited by, and some tapes. If you’re a youngling, you might not even know this is where music came from.
  • [8:14] The quote below refers to the “enhanced version” of some audio Phil recorded on his retro tape recorder. We’ve now established that Phil’s ready for some good times in the shower, and the ghost may be horny. Where could this lead? 🤔
P: It doesn’t really sound like anything, but I’ve listened to it about a thousand times. And I might be going crazy, or I think it sounds a bit like “Henry,” or “Help me,” or “horny,” or “Help the bees.”
  • [10:37] Phil walks in on the ghost in the shower. Notice his immediate reaction is to say that he also wants to take a shower...
P: Is there a ghost in the shower? That’s weird! Is there currently a naked ghost here, and we just can’t see it?

P: It’s gone back to green again now. Obviously, it didn’t like that compliment. *gasps* Ooh! Uh! *gasps twice* What? No! There’s 100% a naked showering ghost.

P: And I wanted to have a shower later, so that’s going to be... Oh, it’s in the sink as well.
  • [11:28] Phil invites the ghost to get kinky with him:
P: Right. Gerald, come into *laughs*. Come into my brain, and possess my hand.
  • [12:57] For the second time in two videos, Phil shows us an extended shot of his crotch.
  • [13:36] Okay, this is it! The moment this whole video has been building up to: Phil and Gerald had some fun times in the shower! Phil’s making excuses in the quote below, but we all saw Phil invite Gerald to come into his mind. I think it’s obvious that Gerald possessed Phil’s butt and used that power to give him an exhilarating experience in the shower. Could something like that really have happened? Judge for yourself...
P: I’m robin’ it up. You’ve gotta do it if you come to a hotel. You’ve got to put the robe on.

P: I had a slight experience in the shower, which *laughs* I thought was paranormal, but I actually just pressed my butt against the cold tap and fully sprayed myself with cold water. It was horrifying but also terrifying because I thought the ghost that I’d seen from the electromagnetic thing had arrived.
  • [13:58] After the shower, Gerald wants more, but Phil doesn’t want to come off as too eager:
P: I’ve got a divinely chocolate cookie. Um. *looks at ceiling* Something just moved on the ceiling. It was just a shadow. Like, a shadow moved? Is it my *moves arm*? No. What was that? Okay. There’s something on the ceiling.

P: Gerald is here. I wanna enjoy this cookie, so can you just wait for two minutes?
  • [14:46] Phil is shirtless. Obviously, this isn’t just the normal way that he always sleeps. Obviously, he’s looking to entice Gerald.
  • [15:52] Phil shows us his “bed head.” Sure, that’s one plausible explanation. 😏
  • [16:53] There’s no end screen for this video.
  • There are no merch links in the video description.

When he said yesterday that today's video involved ghosts, I was like "ghost hunting? nah, who would sponsor a ghost hunting video for him?" I'm glad I was proven wrong, because I absolutely adored it. This felt like the perfect blend of old-school Phil and current Phil, and he must've been so excited to get a spon for something like this.

Of course I'd have loved to see Dan in this, but I've actually really been enjoying solo Phil content this year. He seems to be doing things that he's having fun with. Like other people on here have mentioned, in this video (and recent others), he's lighthearted but not to the point of making a joke out of what he's doing. It's just a really good balance that's really enjoyable to watch.

(Also, "hoot hoot, bitch" was the best thing I've ever heard him say)

Just popping in to register my mild annoyance that Phil’s fantastic haunted hotel video has not been put on the trending tab  He’s doing pretty well for views anyway, but there are other spooky vids on there and his is probably way better.

I'm about as sceptical as they come and find ghost-hunting stuff in general a bit tedious tbh but I liked the video, which probably shows just how much of an influence Phil has on me, ha.

Agree that he absolutely got the tone right, and his humour made it so watchable. Also concur that he looked bloody lovely.

I have such a fondness for Phil saying "bitch" and "biatch", lol.

Since I’m in a clowning mood... is anyone at all hopeful for some sort of surprise Halloween drop? A mukbang, baking, gaming vid... something?

I’m not at all holding my breath—I wonder if Dan will even bother to update his header.

I'm hopeful too, although I did very much love Phil's video last night.
I think Dan's up to something.

It’s trending now. Good job, YouTube

I don’t suppose they’ve heard about teamtrees, everyone else’s videos for it are out now or coming very soon.

I'm personally not expecting anything but I never held out hope for a mukbang I thought it was a throwaway comment when Phil said he would like to do it again, I've always thought that they'd come back to the gaming channel on the 24th of December with A Dab and Evan wedding then announce the future of the channel either still gaming, no gaming but a collaboration channel, I've recently lost hope of that happening.
I think the only time they'll be in a video together will be in one of Phil's videos with Dan being off camera. If Dan ever comes back to YouTube himself I kinda thought he'd go down the Shane route of documentary style videos maybe with British YouTubers. I've not seen any of Shane's documentaries because I find him gross but I could see Dan doing something similar.

Dan is already on spooky mode, he’s been cosplaying as a ghost for a while now. What a dedicated man.

I am just going to take Vidcon!Dan's word for it when he says he has no idea where he's going next and assume his silence is him just taking a well-deserved break from social media. Of course I would love for him to be working on a secret project, but knowing him, I doubt it.

Don’t mind me mildly swooning over here. So it was a wizard-themed room. Looks very Gryffindor-dorm with the red and gold. It looks like it’s not very big and he looks so snug.

I can't watch the new PhilosophyTube video right now, but I am curious how Olly might have used BIG in it. He said it was part of his research, but I don't know if that means he'll reference it in the actual video or not.

I was wary about watching Phil's latest vid as I am not a fan of spooky stuff generally but I am so glad I did. Hoot hoot bitch might be my favourite Phil phrase ever!

I watched it last night (and highly recommend everyone does - FANTASTIC video!) so.... spoiler alert??

BIG was quoted in the context of using "queer" as a label. Dan was also thanked at the end. Made me all kinds of emotional.

Im not a fan of spooks at all but I liked Phil's video a lot! It was like a fun twist on the sleepless night vlogs, and the sponsorship felt completely right. He was funny and looked great and I can't wait to hear him talk more about it on sunday.

Olly's video was magnificent and I highly recommend it.

My head keeps going in circles with Dan at the moment :/ I miss him so much its stupid really as I've never even met the guy, and he obviously doesn't care. I feel guilty for Phil, as I saw a lot of people asking about Dan on Saturdays liveshow. I also feel angry that I miss Dan as why do I when he couldn't give a damn about us, if he wanted to interact with us he could do easily, his obviously on Twitter liking posts making it obvious to us he is online, which makes me even more angry. I dont even want a video anymore at this point, just a tweet or Instagram story. I also feel sad as If he is going through a rough patch, I would hate him to see all the posts asking where he is putting pressure on him. It just doesn't make sense as he seemed to enjoy liveshows and in one show I watched recently he said how it allowed him to talk about his interests, music etc. I just cant wait till we have answers, if we ever do. I really need to find another hobby but I cant help it, I generally thought Dan cared about his fans, and if he does than what is going on :(

Sorry the post is a big ramble but I just wanted to let it all out. And the more Phil uploads and does liveshows etc, the more I miss Dan, which I know is weird.

As a new fan, I don't have the same frame of reference as people who have been around a long time, but I don't interpret Dan's silence as not caring about or hating fans. That strikes me as wildly unlikely. It seemed to me that the clear message in Interactive Introverts is that he appreciated his fans and was going to do a last big show for them, but that going forward his career focus was going to change and therefore his fan relationship was going to change. He was no longer going to be capable of giving the people what they want. I think he can love his fans (case in point, the pride parade) but still want to have a different relationship going forward with fanservice and fan interaction. I just don't think wanting to have less of a social media presence or public profile equals active hate or disregard for fans; I think it just means it's not what he wants right now, but that's a far cry from callous indifference. It actually makes a lot of sense to me that if you are trying to reinvent yourself or find a new path that you would want to lay low for a good long time and fly under the radar and not be constantly flooded with associations from a time in your life your are trying to grow beyond. This is obviously all speculation, but in no universe can I imagine him not appreciating all that his fans have done for him in the past.
