In other news, his clip with the journalist wasn't on the BBC tonight so I’m not sure if it’ll be tomorrow (they had another interview instead). Tweeted him to ask cos actually knowing would be nice.
I didn’t understand Phil’s emoji tweet at all at first, but I get it now, rocket socks and blue candles? Maybe some sparkles. I’m broke af, of course, but what can you do.

The other day Dan tweeted about candles and now we're getting candles, uh? Interesting. Probably a coincidence or maybe not. I don't know anything anymore.
Also I'm ready to bet that the interview will be tomorrow night because that's when i'll be busy and won't be able to watch, therefore I'm gonna use one of those candles to set myself on fire.

you know what's funny? i ordered the II DVD and a backpack (mine is dying and it was cheap) ONE WEEK AGO. And shipping is expensive and if only we'd known a week ago i would've considered getting whatever it is he's announcing. i like space and i like blue so the timing is terrible for me :cAtaraxia25 wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 10:21 pmThe PJs were amazing because it so not something common in merch. Love the ace/ aro representation in this forum!!
Being ace/aro was a hard revelation for me. I think that I first saw the word when I was about 15 (on tumblr!) Before then I had assumed by default that I was a lesbian, because I wasn’t into guys! I started to feel that I didn’t quite like girls in the right way about this age, and then the revelation built with the more research that I did that I was actually ace.
This was also about the age that I got into d&p. I wonder what it is about them that attracts ace people? The queerness? The (former
) sexual ambiguity?
Have any of you ever wondered if there are much more ace people than statistics say? I’ve heard that ace people are 1% of the population. More and more though I meet ace people and see evidence of others possibly being grayace in some way. As this happens I wonder if we are actually a much larger sector of the population. Who knows though...

This has absolutely nothing to do with the current focus of the thread, but after I gave the link to the II commentary, I listened to it myself and I just love how much they genuinely care about their fanbase??? Like they constantly talk about how much they love our enthusiasm and that's just...so nice to hear???? They really are so kind and I love them ahhhh

Hello, fellow ace! That is interesting that they seem to attract ace people. Love the representation herespaceguitar wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 3:02 am Love the ace/ aro representation in this forum!!![]()

I would love candles but personally I think the emoji choices were just all blue...so the merch will definitely be blue...lame (unless it's the boy/boy sign in blue..thatd be lit)
Not to re-animate a tired discussion but I don't see where the confusion is coming in on if Phil was out prior to this and if Dan was out prior to this. I thought both their videos made it extremely clear that Phil was out before the video and Dan was not out before the video. Out meaning out to the people you know in real life.
Also, how could Phil talk about re-coming out so frequently like that if he hadn't experienced it? Speaking from what other gay people say? Why wouldn't he just say "from what I've heard" ? I think Phil was out to "everyone" before this, including randos, or else he wouldn't have had that experience of re-coming out. If this was his first coming out that wouldn't make any sense.
Thank you for sharing!! Also, I'm D Y I N G because I also ended up hooking up with my first ever crush from when I was 13 (a girl) when I was NINETEEN!!plinthofmylife wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 4:11 pmIf you read this far, the end of the story is that when I was 18 I ended up hooking up with the (now very out gay) girl that I had my first crush on.
LITERALLY SAME I LOST MY ACTUAL SHIT SEEING THOSE PAINT SWATCHES BUT NO, IT WAS JUST MERCH!!!! Phil did this to us on purpose. I want a refund.laurenbacall wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 8:56 pm phil's instastory got me so excited. seeing that pantone swatch made me think he was gonna post a "dan and phil new house tour" video tomorrow. then i noticed the irl merch tag......... i broke my own heart

Actually, I know a fair few aces who watch/did watch D&P; the friend who introduced me to them is ace, and I have gained a couple online ace friends through them. It's interesting that a decent amount of their viewers are ace, though I don't know what about them would specifically attract ace people that wouldn't have attracted other non-ace queer people as well.
I definitely think more than 1% of the population are ace/ace-spectrum. From memory, that statistic is over 10 (?) years old and it's always hard to get an exact number of how many people are a certain sexuality for various reasons. Without turning this into a whole ramble, imo there are definitely more aces than people think or that any data that we have shows.
I'm looking forward to the new merch tomorrow because I've loved everything Phil's put out this past year. But I'm also not looking forward to it because I am currently not employed and really don't need to be digging into my savings to buy socks and candles! (will I though? probably.
)

(the graph is from here. I think it's also really interesting to see how their fanbase has gotten a lot more queer since 2015!)
I was curious, so I looked back at the 2018 Phantom survey results, and apparently, 5.6% of participants identified as asexual! I've heard the 1% statistic too, so idk if it's a case of D&P indeed attracting more ace people, or if the 1% stat is wrong (I'd hazard a guess that it's more a case of the former, seeing as how their audience is more queer than the general population. But I wouldn't be surprised if the 1% stat is off either.).goodbants wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 4:29 amHello, fellow ace! That is interesting that they seem to attract ace people. I think it's also partly a case of it still not being a very well-known thing. I thought I was just weird/frigid/shy, after all. If more people were aware of it and were open to looking into the ins and outs of it, that statistic would likely be higher. I feel like it's one of those with so many grey areas too that it would be hard to just say 'yep that's me!' for a lot of people e.g. those who are still hetero/bi/homo-romantic. I would probably still put straight, as it still feels 'wrong' for me to say, as a married lady to a regular straight guy. Feels disrespectful somehow, as bad as that soundsspaceguitar wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 3:02 am

We discuss sexuality in general quite a lot in the phandom, so it doesn't surprise me people are more aware of themselves as a result.
Also, that Dan tweet about candles could mean the merch might be joint. I really want a joint candle haul video including Phil's new candle/merch. Nice and chill and wholesome and domestic

What about the gender composition of the Phandom? I remember Dan saying he had 80% female subs two years ago (?). What about Phil? Many of the nicest guys in this world seem to have have a tremendous female or feminine following.

Maybe it's because they aren't the typical youtube lads, that they seem to have more of a female (or queer male?) following?
Love stats, I forgot about the phandom survey, must study it intently

Real talk... does anyone else here who identifies under the LGBT+ umbrella ever get sudden feelings of realisation? Almost a "gay panic"? For example, I'm sometimes going about my life with my fiancee, and a wave of "wait... I'm a lesbian" washes over me. Like, I know I'm gay because I am one of those gays that never shuts up about it. But sometimes you live your life normally without really thinking about it, and it hits you in an "I am not the norm" sort of way. It feels sort of how this meme looks:

Anyway, I'm getting this same feeling with Dan and Phil at the moment. I'll be thinking about them 100% of my time (literally, it's a problem), like "Dan and Phil came out as gay!!" And then, like a tonne of bricks, "wait... Dan and Phil came out as gay." It just doesn't feel quite real!
Am I making literally any sense? Has anyone else experienced this?
