Why do people hate Catrific?
This post is about:
> Who is Catrific?
> Why do so many people seem to dislike her?
Cat info
Cat is a youtuber [YouTube 1] [YouTube 2] and old friend of Phil's, and later Dan's too, that they've known since their Dailybooth days. (She used to work at Dailybooth.) The three of them met in real life for the first time during Playlist 2012 and ever since they typically see each other every year at both Playlist and Vidcon + any other time when they have the opportunity. Cat often features Dan and Phil in her vlogs when they're there [playlist of D&P appearing in Cat's vlogs]. Notably, there is a fair amount of hate directed at Cat from the phandom.
Why the hate?
Firstly: Vocal minority. Meaning that people who have a positive or neutral opinion are, as ever, less likely to spontaneously voice their non-opinion than people with a negative opinion are. Because the negative people are louder, it will seem like more people dislike the person than is actually true. Also: Bandwagoning plays a part.
Now, the people who do have a negative opinion of Cat typically mention these reasons:
Cat has two French bulldogs. When one of the dogs, Beta, was 8 months old she swallowed a sock left out on the floor and needed expensive surgery Cat couldn't afford - Cat asked her subscribers for help and they came through. She talks about the experience in her Draw My Life.
Rape apologist...?
Cat's friend Luke Conard was accused of a number of things in March 2014, including sexual abuse and rape [link]. (He was never convicted of anything.)
When it happened Cat made this Tumblr post about the situation:
Cat and Luke did not cancel their friendship and Cat continued to tweet Luke and stay in contact with him publicly. All of this put together made a lot of people feel uncomfortable and some consider her a rape apologist.
In 2015 Cat addressed this in two Tumblr posts:

Now, the people who do have a negative opinion of Cat typically mention these reasons:
- she's boring and unoriginal
- she uses famous youtubers like D&P for views
- she doesn't take proper care of her dogs and asked her audience to pay her vet bills
- she's a rape apologist
- she only pays attention to Dan
- she only pays attention to Phil
- !!1!sHe'Ll rUiN pHAnn!1!
- I just don't like her personality, generally
