Oh god I'm dying. Bless him for sharing his past self with the internet, cuz god knows I'd be mortified if anyone read my old cringey emails and msn logs. #Spon or not, the video was really funny, and he did a good job of incorporating the sponsor into it without taking away from the saga of Alice and Snow Dude.

I started watching the vid, saw the first "Hey Babe" and had to drag my brother into my room to endure the cringe with me. We both cringed way more than Phil, my brother especially was in shock at the 19 kisses. The buffy thing had me HOWLING though. Don't worry lil Phil, one day you'll find someone who loves you for you and your buffy obsession instead of your snowboarding persona.
The last message had me crying though, with the "still love u x" I honestly wouldn't be surprised if past Phil was just joking or messing around with that - had me honestly dead.
I'd love to see more of them tbh, v funny content (also the tinder with the derping Dan and the Dil pics were funny - surprisingly cool way to promo tinder without shoving it too far into our faces. thought it was an odd #spon at the beginning but it acc worked!)

Bad news though, this probably won't be made because tom said this was supposed to be a sponsor for tinder but they rejected it... oh the irony in that. But yeah I'm still very because to me it sounded like dan was supposed to go on the date with phil?? Correct me if I'm reading that wrong.phanofcats wrote:I just came here to post this. I'm not sure what to thinkfondsmiles wrote:it seems like dan is doing a collab with tomska and there's a skit planned that features a date? and an orgy? of dan with ... multiple dan's? and phil alone on a date? i am ... confused and intrigued
Also JFC I saw the title of Phil's video and literally cringed and thought it was like recent emails or something. I'll give it a watch. Also I'm assuming because so many youtubers are doing tinder sponsors, they seem to be on just the topics of dating, not Completely about using the app. So if dan does one, I'm going to assume it would be a story from when he was a teen or something. However, dan did say he wanted to wait till the world chills out before he does the idea he has for his next video or something?? And im not sure what that means, I honestly assumed he meant he was gonna talk about a dark topic? But now with the possibility of a tinder sponsor, I'm not sure.
We're here, we're queer, we're filled with existential fear!

i didn't expect it at all, but the video had me in stitches. a single tear was rolling down my face while i tried to muffle my laughter to not disturb my neighbours. part of that was probably due to remembering my own early 2000s e-mail and msn exchanges which i hope are lost to humanity forever. but it was genuinely funny to me, despite the cringe. thank's phil you were great.
i would have liked to learn how old exactly he was when this happened. due to the spelling, i'd say about the same time when he made mark of oxin
i also thought it was a really smooth spon...phil's got skills.

Oh my giddy gods pyjamas, thank goodness he makes it interesting and funny with how he reads and reacts because Tinder spon and the worst kind of emotional boy having no idea how creepy they sound is the ultimate cringe (I have long given up on online dating as I have no patience anymore and almost all messages I've received from men are like that, telling you you're beautiful, assuming they know you're wonderful already when really your profile makes you sound interesting and that would be a far calmer way to start a conversation, I can't stand the gushing or presumption). Good grief, Phil, why? What the heck does he do on his channel that makes Tinder make sense to spon? Those Monster Game apps were a lame duck, but they made sense for being games and paying for half their tour.
Sorry to disappoint, but the dating sketch with Dan won't be happening.
From Tomska's tumblr:
Sadly this sketch was rejected (ironyyy) and will never see the light of day which is why I decided to “leak” it as much as I could without giving away any of the gags x https://thetomska.tumblr.com/post/16174 ... -where-dan
As for Phil's video... I always have a hard time believing these. I was a cringy teenager on the internet once too, I'm just 4 years younger than Phil, and I have never once spoken like this despite doing the whole online dating thing I feel like he plays these up for the audience way too much. Won't rewatch, but oh well.

I thought it was hilarious! Definitely cringe-worthy, but I just love that he has no qualms about releasing catfish evidence from a v young Phil... tell me more, Phil. Also, reason #67194 that I am glad my I didn't start internetting until I was 17 (and that smart phones were not even close to existence). I was cry-laughing at the absurdity of the entire video. Was Phil really that lame?!

I will admit it was cringey. But young!Phil was so desparate it was funny. The video was hilarous. He just mentioned Tinder and that's it. Go watch the video. Once you get over the initial cringe you'll start laughing.fancybum wrote:Is this actually worth watching? Because I feel like giving it a hard pass. I mean he gets a cut so..Moonbeamsonthepath wrote:Sweet of him to promote Dean's merch, though.
I really like how he handled the spon vid. It's like a PG Tinder ad. However, is his demographic the right people to use a dating app?

I agree! This video was cringy but in a i'm-cringing-but-i'm-laughing type of way. I'm glad that Phil acknowledged that litro everything he said was embarrassing as hell though lolsparkle wrote:Okay that was genuinely hilarious it was cringey but not in a way that was anything other than funny - and the #spon was well done too. There are few that I've seen that are that well done tbh.
Genuinely one of my favourite Phil videos (if not my favourite because apparently my old favourite has been deleted). Can he please make more videos like this? It's nice to see him being comfortable with this type of content.
Also can we talk about how many kisses he sent - I don't think the sum total of all the kisses I've sent in my life (excluding jokey ones) is as much as he sent in that one email.

aw god i loved that video it was definitely cringey but it wasn't cringey to the point where I had to stop watching, I actually couldn't stop laughing (the still love u x bit had me in stitches)
i was a bit skeptic at first because it was a #spon for tinder of all things but it actually worked really well!

Well I'll appreciate the gender-neutralness from afar and on your word and skip the vid, I physically can't do it. Those other vids were fine however many years ago, let's leave it in the past by now? Phil? Mine some new ground? What's that pre-made meal thing all the podcasts spon? Something-Kitchen. Like get that spon and do a fail cooking video. I'm not supporting Tinder spon. And I don't know if 'solo deal' applies to them.... Whatever, get that money, but I'm sitting this one (and any others Dan) out.alittledizzy wrote: I have a real hard time imagining Dan doing this one. Crunchyroll and the Dragon spon games were to fund TATINOF, but since they don't seem to be promoting a tour or book I'm wondering if it was a solo deal.
Is it worth watching? I don't know. It hit too much embarrassment squick levels for me. It's essentially Phil talking about how he catfished a girl when he was (almost definitely) a teenager. He doesn't talk about the actual Tinder at all except to throw out a line at the end saying use it if you're trying to meet people.
It's a lot like the old AIM videos he did, but those aren't ones I enjoyed or ever rewatch either so ehhh.
(Some nice bisexual Phil on the rise though, saying if he'd had tinder as a teenager he'd have flirted with more people not more girls.)
Thank you but lol nope. I'll absorb any highlights from reactions here and otherwise pretend nothing happened.Diyes_Celine wrote: I will admit it was cringey. Thanks and have a great day! Oil me
yeah i think it sounds like dan was supposed to go on a date with phil, then gets nervous, they decide to create a dan clone that can go instead, but then dan stands up phil in order to get it on with his clones insteadconfusedpanda wrote:But yeah I'm still very because to me it sounded like dan was supposed to go on the date with phil?? I feel that people often exaggerate how young their audience is. I know a lot of tweens and teens watch them, but I'm sure that their main demographic is 18-25. I remember when Rhett and Link talked about their audience (and they have a morning talk/game show), they said that many assume that their audience is mainly kids, but the stats actually show that most people who watch them are 18-25, and the next category is 26-35! And they host a PG rated morning show. I feel that the younger audience can be louder, but Phil actually knows the age of the people who watch his videos.

The video was definitely a bit cringey but kind of in a good way if that makes any sense. I actually laughed out loud several times. Besides, Phil was really bubbly and cute in this one so I might even rewatch it later.
My one question is, why would Tinder want Phil to do a sponsored video for them? I'm under the impression that a significant portion (/most?) of his audience are teenagers, who aren't even allowed to use Tinder as far as I know.

I am so sad the tomska sketch is not going to be made!! I was genuinely excited I loved Rejects and was excited for the next installment lol
I'm on the fence as to whether or not Dan will do a tinder spon
Something I forgot to mention in my first video thoughts - I too appreciated the gender-neutral "people." Phil was looking over to the side at some parts in the video - anyone else think Dan was over there? Maybe it's not even worth discussing as it may be a given that they're present during each other's filming but I'm just curious as to what others think
PS nihilist-toothpaste mentioned this on tumblr, but isn't it interesting how Phil seemed so desperate to find love/was super flirty pre-Dan but then all of it just stopped?

I've tried online dating over a span of 10 years or so, and I'm 6 years older than Phil, and this is exactly the type of creepy cringe crap I get 99% of the time. Either that or just "hello" or occasionally a calm guy with a brain who approaches me in a way I can fathom. My guess is guys think they're safely expressing their feelings, but have no idea it can seem really strong and then presumptuous or desperate/insecure.Ablissa wrote: As for Phil's video... When he says rejected, does that have to mean Tinder? Or could it also be that Dan and/or Phil didn't want to do it?Ablissa wrote:Sorry to disappoint, but the dating sketch with Dan won't be happening.

Oh lord so much cringe. And it also made me slightly uncomfortable. I think Phil would've been someone I would dislike at that age. At least he's embarrassed about it now. It's alright bud, we all have our skeletons. Plz don't do this again tho.
Honestly though, when I read that it was sponsored by Tinder I had horror flashbacks of the time D&P promoted a dating website back when they lived in Manchester and tried to make us believe that their asses really went on dates so this video really could've been so much worse.

From that point of view, I have definitely experienced it (people coming on too strong or just acting dumb). I just have a hard time believing that Phil was one of those people; I'm not saying none of it is real, just that the messages are edited to match the theme of the video.flarequake wrote:I've tried online dating over a span of 10 years or so, and I'm 6 years older than Phil, and this is exactly the type of creepy cringe crap I get 99% of the time. I thought Phil's vid was very funny. Yeah it was a bit cringey it, but not too bad imo.
Enjoyed the gender neutral mentions and him finally admitted that yes his hair turns ginger during the summer.
Disappointed to hear that Tomska's sketch isn't happening, it sounded good.

I was surprised too since those messages are so awful, but then they're also so common and I've always wondered why so many men are apparently that stupid, but maybe there's more to it. You might be right, though, we can't know if he edited them.Ablissa wrote:From that point of view, I have definitely experienced it (people coming on too strong or just acting dumb). I haven’t laughed this hard all week. Seriously, I used to rewatch Phil’s older videos where he reads through his old chat logs a lot a few years back so getting a new video just like them was such a nice surprise. I thought we’d never hear from Snow Dude again. I kinda really love young Phil’s bad spelling? I don’t know, he must’ve been a riot back then. If not always intentionally…
I don’t mind that it was for Tinder. Phil’s spon videos are usually quite creative and well done so I don’t see what’s the big deal.

Keep in mind that he was a teenager when he sent those mails and this happened in the early 2000s. I believe the mails are real and I can totally see northern teenage Phil sending them some time around 2003 or 2004.Ablissa wrote:From that point of view, I have definitely experienced it (people coming on too strong or just acting dumb).
