That was so fun. I laughed out loud three times!
I do think this was a baking vid of the caliber of the best of the joint ones. I still miss Dan, but I didn't miss him in this video: it was perfect without him.
Top of the page with Phil love.

That video made me so happy! I laughed out loud multiple times, and it takes quite a lot to get me to laugh out loud when watching a video alone

Dunno what it is about Phil's video, but I've watched it several times now and it fills me with absolutely joy every time. Like with the birthday cake video, his chaotic energy in the kitchen is endlessly entertaining. Of course he'd see the dalgona coffee thing and immediately thought of ways to make it contain more sugar. And of course it wouldn't be Phil if he didn't make an absolute mess while doing all of that.
The artisanal bit had me laugh out loud. And then in stitches when it was pointed out to me that maybe Phil just really wanted to pronounce it that way for a reason. Bless him. I also laughed so hard at the bag of marshmallows. I can just imagine Dan in his high pitched exasperated-yet-fond voice yelling "WE ARE STILL NOT A FAMILY OF 10 PHIL" when that got delivered.
I wanna try it now.

That was such a great video!
The green vs yellow thing reminded me of Snokoplasm. I wonder if he remembered that connection?

Since Phil isn't having a liveshow today, PhandomWatch is gonna watch some soft/Easter/pastel-y videos and then do a rewatch of his charity stream from Tuesday!

On the topic of easter and easter baking... I'd like to bring back an age-old question that haunts me to this day. Where did they get the neater bunny biscuits and why not use their own creation??!?!!
Here we have the ones they decorated:
And YET! One jumpcut later.... we get THESE:
Who made them? Did they buy the neat ones directly from Sainsbury's? Did they host an easter party and have the likes of Bryony/Martyn/Cornelia/Ian make these? Were they made ahead of time - just the two of them - for more precision? They don't have sparkles in the icing... so I'm leaning towards store-bought, because why not just use the easier icing in the video? And if they're store-bought, did they go out of their way to buy a bag of bows just to pretend they were making this treat in its entirety???
So many questions. None of them answered. It aches, leaving something like this unknown.

Dan definitely mentioned in a liveshow after this that they had done a test run the day before. But I can't find a clip!

In any other circumstance, I would assume that he has a project coming up. And... he might? But I actually could see him just officially reaching peak boredom in the quarantine.
Where as before he maybe had gym sessions to go to, therapy, meetings, rehearsals, recording, etcetc... Now he's just at home playing video games and trying really hard not to tweet. But that can only last so long and I think we're finally seeing his self-imposed social media avoidance crack. He craves interaction and he's not getting it anywhere else.
Though these could be famous last words and we're about to be sold a quibi special or something, I'm sure.

I could absolutely expect that this surge of interactions is to promote something and be assured I would 100% roll my eyes but I am glad that he at least decided to do it while posting a tasteful opinion on FF7. It's not a right opinion by any means, but it is an opinion indeed

I'm divided because I'm always predisposed to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I guess only time will tell.
If it's to promote something I would still feel nothing. I'm very indifferent to his endeavors but still want him to do good and wish him the best. Idk if that's weird or not.

Dan engaging with us to promote something should calm a lot of people's worries that he's trying to abandon the audience, though, right? He wouldn't tweet AT us to promote something if he didn't want us to still be interested in his projects.
That said, it doesn't bother me either way. He's always been the kind of creator that's quiet while he's working on something and then more chatty with us when he's feeling in a better place about it. Phil does the same thing - Phil just perpetually has something to promote to us - videos and livestreams.

I'm not one that thinks Dan actively wants to abandon the audience, cause I think that would be a stupid idea that he's not executing well if he really were to, so for me it would just mean th same thing: bad at communication, doesn't care about that much either, makes the audience feel like piggy banks etc etc.
(That said... the audience in social media is such a big group that you're unable to differentiate, so it's not exactly right, he could very well trying to make himself known as alive to reach a specific sub group that he wants to target with his promotion and all of us, well we are just.. collateral audience. That wouldn't surprise me. It would still mean he's bad at communication, but that is something that you can't circle around)

This isn't to defend Phil.over Dan or anything like that, but Phil engages with us all the time (and on different platforms) so when that happens cannot be said that is to promote something because social media isn't for that, it's to... keep social. It's not a comparison - with Dan it's just a pattern because in the past year and a half he doesn't interact UNLESS he has something to promote, and he only does it a few days prior and then gone again. It's really a completely different use.
It's like.. like If your friend never ever texts you just to ask you how you are what you're doing and then you notice that when he very seldom does, he asks a favor immediately after and then disappear vs the friend who just.. talks to you more frequently and also sometimes ask a favor. One feels genuine relationship and one.. doesn't

Yeah... but Dan and Phil aren't our friends, they're entertainers that engage with us as part of their career. That, to me, doesn't negate a genuine emotional connection with us. But I think the whole point of the last year for Dan has been that he's re-negotiating what kind of priority that connection with us and youtube needs to play in his life.
I also don't hold Dan to the same standards that I would hold a friend to because I have a one on one connection with a friend. Dan is dealing with a 4-5 million to one connection when he engages with us. If I text one friend and tell them something, they reply and it's a clear cut conversation. If Dan "texts" (posts) something he gets three thousand various replies of all varying degrees of adoration, love, humor, hostility, sadness, etc. It's way, way more to deal with. It's just not a good or accurate comparison to make to me.

I wasn't trying to say Dan is our friend, I was specifically making a metaphor on the friend who texts vs the friend who does it for opportunity, I thought that was clear.
And the problem with Dan here isn't in the way he replies or doesn't reply, it's the way he withdraws any type of communication - and let it be known, relatable tweets with no substance to it or liked posts is not what I mean with communication. I mean actually talking to the audience, not about personal things and not even about his project if it's not ready, but he could say something about what he's doing, reply to the questions of people or just making it feel like he wants to share something with the audience - even if he did a liveshow/livetweeting of commentary of ff7 would feel better (and kayy, I'm biased)
I would just respect it more if he said the things about his projects or for once said why he's disappeared instead of hiding it in the replies and just avoid talking and ignoring the questions that have been asked for a year. That will forever be the issue here.
And about the amount of people to texts... consider it a group text then, like I said it was a metaphor - a comparison with how Dan vs Phil engage since you said it was the same thing, not dan/phil vs a friend.

I’m not going to say this is a negative opinion because I feel like I apologize too much or have to always add a disclaimer if I’m not agreeing but I don’t like the trend lately of explaining dan’s behavior by saying “well phil does this” because I don’t think it’s a fair comparison. Phil doesn’t just talk to us when he has something to promote. He made a whole video telling us about his plans and then told us when he was taking a small break and when he was done he told us about that too. He’s also went out of his way on vacation and holidays to make sure we have content and even after vidcon he went live and he’s made sure to share small things from his personal life too.
Something else that doesn’t sit right is that Phil does a thing - tells us about a zoom call with his family, posts a video, talks about his career- and immediately there are several posts about how people bet dan was there helping him along because some people have a hard time accepting a phil thing as a phil thing and not making it a vehicle for Dan. It has to be discouraging for him to have a liveshow or post a new video and see so many questions about dan. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t blacklist his name after this last video.
I’m rambling and not very coherent but if people are asking for dan to be treated fairly that’s fine but can’t we show that same respect for Phil?

I respect that everything you said above is how you want Dan to act.
It's just not who Dan is. Not now, and in my opinion, not ever in a healthy way. He used to be an anxious snappy mess most of the time when he did liveshows. His cycle of oversharing, hating the interpretations around what he said, lashing back out, getting comfortable and oversharing again were painful for me to watch. So like yeah, he was sharing himself while not directly promoting anything (except for making money off of the liveshows), but clearly at a cost to himself.
And I know a lot of people view having empathy for Dan as a weakness or something fans shouldn't do, but I can't help but view him as an entire person and not just the entertainer I want to entertain me. I think that's just a factor of coming at fandom from being a fan of them as people vs them as entertainers and I'm not trying to say anyone that sees it any other way is wrong for it even if I can't personally grasp the 'empathy is bad' approach. I accept what I cannot understand as no less valid just because I can't understand it.

I do agree with this.
The lack of Phil engagement even on the forum has made me really sad. I stopped doing liveshow timestamps because it was just like... no one cared, no one was really responding to them even when I specifically tried to do my timestamps in a way that would inspire conversation about things Phil said.
I would love it if people showed up to talk about Phil as much as they do express opinions about Dan.
