I gotta say, dan's tweet really has me give up my defense of "dan is working on stuff and it's hard to be public figure/social media person" - seriously what a dumb PR move.
Though the phil response made me giggle.

I am just cackling at everyone on twitter who was like “Dan has not tweeted in a month, he’s definitely up to something!” or “His next tweet’s not gonna be a normal tweet!” And I was here thinking “You guys haven’t learned anything yet, uh”.

This is pretty funny, but also very correct:
I have lots of love today for both Phil and for Dan; they just make me fond as heck for being two humans out in the world, striving.

Dan's tweet cracked me up, tbh. It's the essence of Dan. It's like a line plucked from a liveshow. I think if people are thinking his next tweet/move will be a big one every time now it's definitely a setup for disappointment. He's touching base in exactly the way he always has, it just used to be more frequent. What I took from this is "I'm still alive, I'm going to engage with you a little bit, this will be the same thing it always has been, because whatever I'm working on isn't ready yet."
I do think the comment about contemplating homosexuality and "preparations" are a clear indication that he's working. He's told us before he is, I don't think this post negates any of that. This is just an relatable sarcastic 'still alive' check in.

This might be my depression talking lol but...
Dan's tweet from yesterday was exactly what I expect from him at this point yet it still made me feel shitty. I normally didn't mind his negative tweets because jokes and all that, that's his sense of humor. I've gotten used to it after 8 years. But it's a lot less fun if that's all he's putting out in the world rn. I followed Dan because he brightened up my day with his content when I felt low. So here we are in 2020, I'm in one of the deepest depressions I've ever been in while the world is going to shit, and Dan now just kinda... adds to that. No, he's not my personal court jester and I'd never expect him to be. He doesn't owe me anything or whatever. But his usual antics used to go along with at least some kind of positive message. It just really brings me down and makes me want to avoid him and his presence if he just keeps going like that. But I also don't wanna do that because I still like Dan, no matter how much I like dunking on him.
Tough shit I guess.

Your mental health always comes first, surround yourself with things that resonate with you and make you happy, it's totally okay if Dan isn't that right now. It does suck but, it's okay to step back sometimes, however long that takes.
I hope this helps a little.

I just watched Joey Graceffa and Daniel Preda's breakup video and it was certainly interesting - especially because they managed to live together for a little while after their relationship ended. And definitely refreshing to see an open, mature handling of a breakup.

Hey ha ha anyone else terrified by the world in general right now? I'm just in a constant state of this right now:
With some of this thrown in:
And maybe this:
If Phil wants to follow that semi-weekly trend and drop a video soon, I'm just like, I'm just saying. He can do that.

Does anyone know what was Phil’s first video to get 1 million views? If it was with Dan, what was his first solo vid to get 1 million?

Wow! That was unexpected. 4 years in Phandom and still finding out new facts and new content.
Thanks!

I agree! I sympathise with the people who may feel down because of his tweets (and if that’s all you feel without pointing fingers, this isn’t directed at you). However, I definitely am struggling to comprehend the strange resentment that Many people seem to have for him. And yeah I know, it’s a bit too late to join the discourse, but I’ll say my piece.
Maybe it’s because I’ve always been pretty detached from the fandom, happy to love him on my own, but I think that this entire feeling of entitlement to content from him is a bit strange. He’s clearly working on things, he’s not forcing you to give him anything either. If you feel inclined to do so and simultaneously resent yourself for it, isn’t that something you should process within yourself, instead of blaming him? The nature of parasocial relationships is that you’re attached more, doesn’t mean you’re owed more.
This isn’t some go fund me project you all got scammed out of. This is someone whose clearly been exhausted by being in the harsh spotlight for too long, has longterm mental health issues, and is doing what’s right for himself.
Idk. Lots of feelings. This tweet actually made me laugh a lot and made me love him more. Regardless of what he’s going to do next I’m happy to have him around on my TL.

When people will understand that the problem is not Dan not being active on social media or not giving us content but the way he chose to disappear and not communicate his intentions, that will be a great day I am really looking forward to.

The thing is, phandom isn't a cohesive unit with only one opinion, and for some people they really do want Dan to just be active on social media. I've seen it said plenty of times that people just want to know what's going on in Dan's life or just want "him to breathe." Also some people do see him as communicating his intentions. I personally don't need the message of "I'm working on things" renewed monthly; he told us that in June, I didn't need to hear it again now. If you do, and you view him not as not communicating intentions, then okay - I'm not arguing that ever. That's how you feel, I respect that. But you're just not the only one with a problem with Dan's behavior and there is not one singular opinion on what he's doing wrong or what would fix it, so sometimes responses to aren't directed specifically at your perspective and only your perspective.

I am definitely not speaking on behalf of all the phandom, but even if people just wanted him to breathe, I couldn’t even blame them at this point, considering how this year he has only popped up on twitter once a month to remind us he’s alive with one of his Relatable Dan Tweets just to disappear again. And to me that it’s a strange behavior if we consider he’s someone who spent a decade engaging regularly with his audience, so it feels ~weird that he’s not doing that anymore with no explanation as to why and if there’s frustration going on in the phandom because of it, I think it’s quite understandable. That’s what I mean when I say people (that I follow, at least) want communication from him. Not communication about what he’s working on (although it would be appreciated because he’s been saying the same thing since October but whatever), but about why he’s shifted his relationship with his audience so drastically and suddenly. Not that it’s wrong, by the way! He can do whatever he wants and how he wants to. But I am questioning the way he decided to go about it.

All I’m gonna add is that I don’t see Dan explaining much after all this time, I did hope for it at first, but realised he hadn’t said he’d do that either, and we may have actually had all the explanation we’re gonna get even if just in small bits like the tumblr post after his 4th merch drop, if I’m remembering that correctly.
Also this is interesting (bit clickbaity title, he says he feels this monthly)

Listen, there’s no ~negativity allowed here. You can only be happy for everything to do with Dan or be politely asked to leave (ie. ~step away uwu~) or else keep your thoughts/eNtiTleMeNt to yourself. Or, you know, get piled on for having the audacity to feel things differently than those who are perfectly happy with 1 tweet in a year (because they’re better and more rational people than those who feel negativity or sadness, obviously). If you’re not perfectly content with the years-long pattern of blatant rejection and neglect (and y’know, simply wish it had been different, that’s literally all) then clearly you’re a monster lol. Oh well.

This conversation never goes anywhere because we can speculate and post videos of other youtubers but none of that matters when it comes to dan and his relationship with his viewers. Personally I don’t dislike him but I’ve lost respect for him. I don’t need anyone to talk me out of my feelings because my opinion has been fixed over the last year and a half. If he told us he was on a break that would be nice but dan doesn’t want to or doesn’t have time to or doesn’t care- take your pick so I’m going to assume he’s here for money and that’s it. Nothing wrong with that because it’s his job but he doesn’t get to use the narrative that he cares about his audience as much as they do when he’s done nothing to show that for a long time.

Wait I'm confused...when did anyone on idb say that dan's tweet made them upset because he's not communicating/posting content? This whole discussion started because of dan's tweet right? Am I missing something? lol.
My impression was that it seemed like some people here weren't really feeling dan's tweet because it can be viewed as a distasteful thing to say in the middle of a pandemic where many people can't see the people in their lives/have lost loved ones, not that they were upset because he wasn't delivering content in this specific instance?
And before anyone says it, yes, obviously Dan's allowed to tweet whatever he wants. But people are also allowed to feel however they want to feel about it too.

I think this expresses it for me.
I want to know why? Why he can’t tweet, why he can’t do liveshows, why he can’t make content, why he can’t like people art on tumblr. And can I say I don’t have any hard feelings for dan. I’m not angry at him. I am actually in a good place with where my relationship as a view stands with him. But there still will be times I will feel a little upset by him, not for very long and that could be a bad thing because I’m finding my self not caring or thinking like maybe dan doesn’t have respect just to say “All my time and energy is going into said project so I won’t engage with my audience till it’s done”
I’m still questioning the logic of ghosting your views and audience when you want to sell us something in the coming months. Does he think it will create expenses and get the same reaction like he did with BIG? I just want to know the thought behind it.
And I’m not gonna say he doesn’t owe us anything like I’m sick of hear it. We know but if dan wanted to say I’m taking a break from all social media blank blank blank and here’s the reason, I’d understand and agree. The mans been on YouTube his whole adult life so I understand the reasoning but that doesn’t mean I know why he does what he does.
Im neutral and I understand both sides completely, I think I fall somewhere in the middle if at all. If people are happy to wait that’s cool but people can express unhappiness. No one has to blindly put their faith in dan. As adults we can question the people we follow and look up to. I’m glad people are excited for his project and when he drops it all I’m asking for is for him to actually be here. In the present with his audience, engage with them even when it is done. Please don’t do this with everything you put out.

Nothing to add, just that I didn’t mean Jazza’s video to explain Dan, I mostly just forgot to post it this morning and reading here reminded me.
