Oh, I'm sure everyone is very professional - but if I were FlipSide, given that they are essentially the same company as ChannelFlip, I'd be awfully worried about the potential for Dan and Phil to walk away from the management side too and leave them with frankly not a whole lot of big names left. We're assuming that everything with FlipSide will remain status quo indefinitely but the truth is probably that we'd have even less outward signs of them having left FlipSide once the tour is over.
As FlipSide I too would worry about that, because let’s face it they are the biggest that they have. But managing yourself is a lot of work, and I don’t know if it would be smart of them to try and do that on their own now as well.
Then again I do think that Dan and Phil don’t take hasty decision, so were they to leave FlipSide as well then I’m sure that they thought long and hard about it.
I’m sure that FlipSide is freaking about it, but if Dan and Phil want to leave than there is nothing they can do. That is the nature of the business they are in.

I think they will still be a part of Flipside even if they start their own network. I just want them to form it already but I think they will wait till TATINOF is over than collect the sales from that company and join all the other ones under one :thumb:

If i was flipside i would worry too. Unless we are really strong at managing, which so far from what i can see i think they are not very good. Deppy leaving channelflip seems more like they have overgrown that, channelflip can't benefit them any more.

I do hope they had a relaxing day off in Atlanta, and are still feeling really motivated about everything and are adjusting well.

super not impressed with the slack presence, though. i was hoping they would've learned something from the UK tour, and especially with this one being longer: it's a part of your job to talk about what you're doing and how you view things in this field, if you're not going to be uploading content regularly (which compared to others, i actually don't expect for the next little while). i think that's a fairly generous trade-off to keep people interested and engaged. i don't want to know what their shits look like, but perhaps a comment or two about their experience that doesn't seem like it was in their twitter drafts already.

things that should be banned from mentions if they don't want me to think they're robots:
- cereal
- pancakes
- falling of a stage
- motion sickness
- haha i went outside
- american eagles
- funny quirky dream i had last night but no further details or analysing myself
- how we're trash and we hope you don't want a refund for watching our flop messes
- fighting over beds/screens/bathrooms/food like you're 12 year old brothers

yes to heartfelt things like acknowledging the signs, yes to being self-aware about what kind of fan culture you have in a funny non-judgemental way, yes to spontaneous vines with people you don't normally associate with, yes to any random observations/photos/weird thoughts you wanna share.

on a less demanding consumerist note, I'm so here for the channel flip discussion and discoveries. can't wait to see what Phil pops up under next, will it be Dan's company name or is there gonna be a brand new undertaking? hmmm.

So because I've been bored off my ass I decided to do some stalking (I know its bad just let me live) and I went into Dan's mum's facebook page. It's private of course, but you can still see who she follows and the pages she has liked. I don't see Dan in her friends list (tbh he probably has a fake account, which shouldn't be too hard to find if he is friends with her since she only has 125 friends) but there is one thing that really sticks out to me. She has liked Dan's page as well as the "Dan and Phil" page, but she hasn't liked Phil's page. #phandivorce?

Rather than managing themselves, could it be that they're setting up for Martyn to manage them both? Didn't he manage Cornelia at one time with her music? Nice little empire...

This, this, this. It's way too narrow to just say their job is youtube and they don't owe us anything else. Their job is to entertain and they make money for being personality-based entertainers. Sure, they make money off videos, but they left youtube as a sole career focus behind a long time ago.

And considering they make money from direct audience interaction (as opposed to an actor, who makes money from a studio contract and is a few steps removed from audience support) I think it's totally okay to be vocal about not being thrilled when they aren't upholding their end satisfactorily. It's especially amazing to me that they've got fans so trained that they're held to very little in the way of expected interactions (a tweet or a pic every couple days that actually keeps us feeling tapped in) but there's still an overprotective backlash when people express disappointment or disenchantment with their real-time tour life radio silence.

Both the games channel and the craft channel are now under Dan's network. Hmm.

I still don't see why they couldn't create a joint network (especially for the joint channels). I can understand why they may want their own individual channels under their own individual networks...but joint channels? Maybe it's easier to put the joint channels under one of their networks (Dan's) and just distribute the income accordingly than to have a joint network which needs to be split between them? It doesn't sound like it would be easier but who knows.

Regardless what network name Phil will be under (or won't be under), I'll be intrigued by the result lol.

I doubt either of them would have a fake account cause I've seen their real ones in other YTers friend lists, they're just super private profiles which you can't add as a friend or anything so they control who they add which makes sense in their position
Not being friends with his mum isn't that surprising imo, a lot of people won't accept their parents on Facebook

I'm so here for them building a media empire managing their various YT channels, very interested to see where this goes

alittledizzy once again you express my thoughts far more eloquently and less glibly than I, thank you. haha.

sad dimple that's an interesting thought. i'm not sure they'd have the experience or connections, however. but maybe that's not the type of management deppy want, anyway, and they're happy to poach their own deals.

I've never had any family on my facebook or any social media account. i know it's very common, but it weirds me out slightly that other people do. so i don't consider that a indicator of much, other than Dan probably doesn't want to think about his mother reading his comments and statuses.

aw, poor Philly though. she probably just forgot to click or look at his too when she was liking things back when she discovered them.

but if they give me another robomorsel in the next 12 hours i will gladly start #phandivorced just for something to do. jhambs affectionate digs at our phandom colleagues will never be passé.

Do you think D+P will eventually manage other youtubers under their own network/Dan's network? Or do you think they'll stick to keeping it strictly Dan and Phil? I don't really consider those fan accounts as ones they're actually considering to legitimately "manage".

Good that they got the craft channel under Dan's name as well, as I thought it was scandalous that they hadn't done so immediately. ;)

I guess it does make sense to put them under one network, at least for now.
Though I'm still finding it strange that he has those fan's accounts under his network, don't really understand that.

No one is stopping you to be vocal about your disappointment, but just like some people get bored of people ‘defending’ Dan and Phil, others get bored of the (same) complaints.
I feel like both sides should be able to express their opinions without being attacked.

Maybe it is just because I’m from a book fandom, where if you’re lucky you will get new content after a year of waiting, that I find I get plenty of content from Dan and Phil. Although new content is always more than welcome. I can see why others don’t feel the same. Doesn’t mean that I was trained by anyone to feel a certain way, I have my own opinions thank you very much.

This is super random and off topic, so excuse me, but I figured I just ask here anyway as that's the most likely place for someone to know:

so I've been re(rererere)watching Buffy the past few weeks & as I just had a shower moment of Wow This Show Fucked Me Up And Made Me Who I Am In So Many Ways, I started thinking about Phil's love for it and sort of...

I've got nothing. I know he thinks SGM is hot, that he watched it as a kid, that he has the box-sets and thinks Angel was less good (which, yeah, to put it mildly :D) - but I have no idea what he thinks of it otherwise. So what I'm wondering is if he ever shared anything. Favorite episodes, characters, moments, most hated characters (RILEY, ANGEL, RILEY, ANGEL, RILEY, ANGEL - so many to choose from :D), favorite season, anything. Like did he ever gush about how brilliant it is for a few good meaty minutes during a ls? I haven't watched a lot of the early one, so I'd love anything to go on, I just wanna know what he thinks. :D

Also - today is like a very plausible LS day, if not today, than not for a few long days onwards.

I'm actually trying to figure out if today is a plausible LS day or not. They had/have 11 hours between Atlanta and Reading, so either they left literally as soon as they were packed up last night (before 11 pm) and drove straight through and made it to a hotel, giving them the rest of the day... or they had another hotel night last night in Atlanta, and are spending today on the road.
SquishPhan wrote:No one is stopping you to be vocal about your disappointment, but just like some people get bored of people ‘defending’ Dan and Phil, others get bored of the (same) complaints. I feel like both sides should be able to express their opinions without being attacked.
I absolutely agree, no one should be attacked either way for expressing an opinion. Book fandoms and youtube fandoms are totally different animals with totally different sets of behaviors and expectations, and everyone is going to be influenced by their own past experiences and in general just the amount of content it takes to satisfy them. But I think it's always going to be a natural occurrence that during down time when we feel like we're missing out on something cool, people will fill the conversation with their wants and frustrations, though. Especially on a forum where people want to have something to talk about. Phandom is pretty good at entertaining themselves but youtube culture in general has a vibe of immediacy and shortened attention span that puts expectations on a different level than a book fandom where it's understood that there will be a certain extended amount of time between new content.

I liked how you assumed this was about you. Dan and Phil fans who defend them are not that uncommon. You mentioned not being trained by anyone, and that's great for you (although you mentioned being part of the book fandom, and how that affected the way you look at the amount ofcontent they produce? Idk), but you're not the only one in the phandom. I think most people here would agree that we do expect less content from them than we would with other yters, and that is because of what they've conditioned us to expect from them.

Being from the book fandom doesn't mean you look at their content the way you look at books. It means you look at their content the way you'd look at other youtuber's contents. And, most of the time, they make it worth the wait, which is why we stay in the fandom. But, rn, it does not feel like the wait is worth it, bc we're getting content drought for someting most of us will not be able to experience. And, honestly, you assuming that these generally relevant posts are shading you is annoying af (ofc, you can continue being annoying af. It's a forum without much censorship, but I just wanted to tell you that)

I'm sorry that you seem to feel attacked, especially because I don't think that was anyone's intention here. Suppose alittledizzy's words about d&p having their viewers "trained" might've been a little harsh but they probably weren't directed at anyone in particular. So I hope you can see that I'm not trying to attack you either in what I'll write... I actually slightly admire your patience and the fact that you've been able to transfer your book fandom habits into your youtube fandom life. But at the same time I'm totally unable (and quite frankly, unwilling) to do that because to me, as I think I've mentioned a couple of pages ago, the literary world and the "d&p entertainment world" are two totally different things; somehow I see their job description as more than just making videos, maybe close to

therefore, by default, my disappointment is bound to be a little bigger than yours.

So my conclusion is that one fundamental difference between people like you and people like me, alittledizzy or mermaid blood is in how we see their job description. Let's agree to disagree then

Damn, if that's all the opinions he gave in 10 years of publicly adoring that show and yet it's such an innate part of his brand - damn, once again, impressed by your magic, Lester.
But good tibids, thank you very much! Hush and OMWF are really obvious answers, everyone and their brother loves them, but they're also pretty good answers. Also, he sang Anya's anti-bunny song, which makes me love him just a little bit more. :D

Well I certainly hope they decided to take the drive first & them have their rest/downtime before the show uninterrupted, that would feel like the smarter choice to me regardless of a ls, but you never know, obviously.

I think he said Glory was the best villain, Buffy was his favourite character and he was team Spike but I'm not 100% sure where. I think it may have been in a liveshow with Dan actually because then I think Dan claimed to be team Riley.

keeping up with this site is so hard, but I remembered this ask!

I've accepted that we're not going to be getting much while they're on tour I want them to prove me wrong I wish they'd get snapchat, even if it was just for the tour, like someone mentioned before I think. It would be a good way to let everyone see their trip in tiny parts and they wouldn't really have to edit much. But I don't expect anyting.

Maybe they're just trying to get used to tour life for now and then maybe we'll start getting more updates?
