I kind of get a clothing label feel from this rather than merch??? maybe that's just me. I mean the man likes his fashion and after seeing the (limited) look of the website with the 'DH' logo that's where my thoughts go..

(I could be completely wrong)

Yeah, interesting that it’s gonna be on his own website (heck, the district lines site still has their stuff, though idk if it’s really in stock). My first thought after admiring his zigzaggy logo was how a separate site will stir the phandom up and my brain started on “stir the phandom” to the tune of “peel the avocado”, knowledge of which I can thank Phil for. I’m intrigued by what Dan’s got in store (ouch, pun). Ooh, clothing label vibe, good point waves, now that would be extra snazzy.

I’m kinda glad I read here first and then watched, because I was braced for tension, but I thought it was just fine. I did not care for Dan’s twisted over exaggeration of Phil’s adorable tongue poking out laugh (how has he not bitten it?) but it’s fine, because as mentioned above it *is* an endearing quality we all like and Dan has mirrored it before (as have I). It’s unfortunate that Phil kept going with Dan’s gut and not his own (even when Dan told him not to) because Dan was pretty wrong for most of it. Always nice to see the boys in black. Rise glasses!Phil, rise!

Oh... well that’s not what I was expecting. But I’m intrigued.

Oh yeah I definitely agree. I think that'd be so cool and something he'd really like (obviously). I know Mitchell Davis is trying to do something like that and I haven't been impressed (sorry Mitchell) but Ido think Dan has an eye for fashion.

Well I wasn't expecting an entire new website. I obviously tried to see if the link worked for Phil and it didn't lol

Besides the eyerolling #phandivorce stuff going around, I do wonder how they'll go on with merch now? I bet financially they don't care, it's still under IRL digital, so is it only an aesthetic thing? Is it to get more of Dan's casual viewer that might like the edgy stuff? Are they gonna make more tour and gaming merch so they want a space to have the solo merch? I guess it makes sense, it always was kinda amusing that they kept their main channels separate yet had combined merch

I like the idea of clothing line!!

When he first mentioned it, I was a bit hesitant of him breaking off from Phil, but realistically, it makes sense? Dan's always been super into fashion and merch design (think Kanye, Radiohead, etc etc) and it probably wasn't fun constantly releasing corny and colorful shit under the Dan and Phil™ brand. Breaking off and doing his own (mostly likely) monochrome line is nice and I imagine he's inspired to do it by the likes of Nathan Zed and Connor Franta.

(I'd shell out ALL of the cash if he ends up in Urban Outfitters or something similar one day, but idk if he's going that head-first into his merch game.)

I do wonder if he just wants plain old generic merch for his own brand or if he's going to go a bit more #fashion with it. Get some inspo for Vetements and the like... :hmmm:

I agree now that I've thought about it. They have to know that people are instantly going to catastrophise and assume there won't be more joint merch though. Especially with how everyone's feeling. It's not hard to send a separate tweet to say the joint stuff will continue as normal but he's too busy being mysterious. I get trying to hype something and he does hate spoilers but not everyone on his twitter will have seen the mention on his last live show. I hate the lack of communication 🤦🏼‍♀️

Anyway I'll try to go back to being excited.

I liked the video overall. I agree that Dan was still not in a great place (and I hope this was filmed last week and he's actually doing better now), but I still enjoyed the video overall. Like someone else mentioned, I like that he isn't pretending to be okay for the camera, and being more open about how he's feeling. Could obviously do without some of the more snarky comments, but I overall appreciate that he's not trying to be fake and pretending to be perfectly fine. Also, I liked how Phil joked about Dan's depression in the video. It makes it so much more normal and does a lot to take away from the stigma of mental health issues - he joked about it the same way he would joke about anything else with Dan. It's also a good model for some people to see, like Phil is treating Dan the same and not suger-coating stuff, so the fans don't need to either. (but overall yes, I agree with the general sentiment of most people here that Dan was not his best in this video and that I hope he's feeling better now)

I also loved Phil making the love triangle bi. It immediately reminded me of the Mark of Oxin where he made the threesome bi. The boy's been making things bi for years, and I love him.

i think it's interesting he's releasing some solo merch, and i definitely think it'll be more his aesthetic and fashion choices. i feel like it could be aimed towards more casual viewers too.

i'm pretty excited to see what he'll come up with <3 part of me is thinking that he both is into fashion and just really, really wants to release solo merch that isn't the horrifying 'danosaur' blasts from the past lmao :dh:

I think he's most definitely trying to emulate something like Nathan Zedd's "Good Enough." I just wonder how well it will turn out. There's always been something so forced about YouTube merch that i find cringey by its sincerity alone. To each their own, and what people want to buy, but I'm already not looking forward to his kind of feigned half assed, fake casual plug for his merch when it's eventually released. Also, I have no mood for him just hyping the website before there isn't actually merch. Slow down, there  who knows, maybe lots of people will actually like it. I don't particularly understand what there is to bank on a plain black aesthetic but Dan will find a way

I know, I know, it's ridiculous but it's still a (halfhearted) #phandivorce as he separates himself from Phil. After a few years of building themselves up as a double act, he's reversing it again, which is....interesting....let's see how this develops by this time next year... :/

I don't see how this is 'phan divorce' at all, tbh. They have separate channels, that's just a fact. There's nothing new about that. They also used to have separate merch, they only departed from that when they started doing book/tour stuff. Dan literally said they've been thinking about solo merch since 2016 but just procrastinated.

They also both own the company making the merch, so the money is kinda going to both of them at the end of the day. I view this more as them putting more branches on the same tree they've always been than any kind of separation. This seems perfectly in line to me with them starting up gaming merch last year. There are people who love The Sims but not much else Dan and Phil do, so they made The Sims fans targeted products. Based on his subscriber and view count, there are definitely people who only watch Dan and might be put off buying products that have Phil's name on them too. I fully expect AmazingPhil merch will be along shortly. There's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't offer individual merch for any facet of their youtube monolith that might have it's own core of followers.

The video was alright, nothing too special. Though I saw the promo on tumblr first and totally assumed it was an amazingphil video together with Dan  weird title and header for a gaming video, but sure, whatever.

re Dan solo merch: honestly knowing this boy and how I tend to react to his stuff I'm either going to absolutely love it or absolutely despise it. Could go either way. But I'm not at all bothered by him launching his own shop. Maybe it's just because I'm used to kpop where people in groups do solo stuff all the time while also remaining with the group. But I'm happy for Dan if this means he gets to do solo endeavors where he can express himself and his own style more without being too tied down to the Dan & Phil brand. Go get that sweet cash and job satisfaction, and all that. (Although I'm also curious now if Dan doing his own monochrome fashion brand also means at some point we might get a Phil version with no black anywhere in sight.)

Dan's current monochrome vaporwave aesthetic is ugly so if his merch is anything like the ugliness that has been displayed on his channel since the rebrand he can keep it.

I think people are projecting a lot based on the general negative mood in the fandom the past couple of weeks. But it's just merch. You're all allowed to have your own opinions and emotions obviously, but I just don't think there's anything to be worried about.

Okay, but that website is making me seriously curious. There’s nothing there yet but it already looks pretty cool. Can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for us, consider me hyped. If it's low-key merch in monochrome colours, I might actually buy something. #toogothfortheirusualmerch

The title of the new video literally made me snort. Video was great, had to stop it halfway through because I was laughing so hard when Dan imitated Phil’s laugh, bye. I didn’t think Dan seemed hostile or in a bad place at all. Maybe a little moodier than usual but not that moody either. There was this one quip about the meaning of his last video, but eh. All the other stuff seemed pretty much classic Dan and it didn’t seem to me like Phil was taken aback by anything (also if he truly was, don’t you think they would’ve edited it out?) Phil was really great though, made me laugh so much and I loved the excitement about lesbians, same.

Also can we maybe stop with the “phan divorce” humbug. Every time they do something without the other one people get upset and can we maybe just… be happy for them? They are extremely close and they always will be but they’re still two separate people. Let them have separate projects as well. Let Dan have his own website. This merch line is Dan’s project that he probably worked hard on and I think we should be looking forward to it, not start fretting because Phil isn’t a part of it. (If it turns out ugly, go ahead and hate it, but we know nothing about it as of now.) They might have merged into a double act along the way but that doesn’t mean they can’t do something on their own now and then without it having some deep sinister meaning. Why would Dan have to reassure fans the combined merch will still be available? Of course it will be, do you think Phil sponned the heck out of that stuff the last few weeks if they were going to discontinue it? Dan having his own merch doesn’t mean there will be no more combined merch, it's just another one of his solo side projects.

I felt more of a tense vibe from Dan in this gaming video than I did in the last one, but I still enjoyed it for the most part! I'm here for Phil, king of the bisexuals (also Phil saying "it's lesbians" made me laugh for some reason, I feel like that should be a reaction gif), and I thought there were some cute and genuine moments. I hope with time Dan will start to feel a bit calmer and that will show on the gaming channel, but I'm happy to give him space and let him work it out. And overall, this video really didn't feel that bad to me.

Agree with all of this. Also Phil just liked Dan's tweet about the solo merch, so I think it's safe to say he's on board with it (not that he would have to be, Dan can do what he wants, but maybe it'll help reassure the people freaking out). I never buy their merch anyway, but I'm intrigued as to what it'll be and I'm sure Phil will be out there sponning Dan's merch in his liveshows (if they ever return from war) like the filthy capitalist he will always be :')

I'm not excited about Dan's new merch per se because I don't necessarily share his aesthetic, but I'm excited for him. I think it's great that he's trying to expand his brand and choosing to do something that he clearly wants to do. It's probably an important step for him in his rebranding, and as someone who struggles with a lot of similar issues although without the massive audience I get his need to prove himself.

As for #phandivorce, I feel like a lot of these people are perhaps young or just don't really have a good understanding of how long-term adult relationships work. Most couples actually manage to have completely separate careers and still maintain a loving relationship. There really is nothing to worry about here. Dan made some solo merch that he's proud of, unlike his previous solo merch that he feels no longer represents him, and he's going to sell it through their co-owned company so that they can get their forever home together. I'm married and I do not have any merch with my partner and we are not divorcing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Phil announced some solo merch later with the tour coming up. It's their last tour so it's a now or never opportunity to sell some extra merch. I wouldn't order it online, but if I were seeing them on tour, I probably would make some impulse buys because that often happens when you attend an event. And honestly I'm getting so very tired of people freaking out over this being their last tour as if it were the last thing they're ever going to do together. Touring is exhausting. I'm reminded of that interview of Michael Jackson where he says he goes through hell touring. Their career doesn't require that they embark on annual tours to satisfy their audience, so to me it feels perfectly normal to not want to do that for a long time. I'm around the same age as them, and lately I've really liked the idea of settling down and making a home as opposed to constantly going on new adventures.

The real reason Dan has a whole other website for it - can't taint that advertiser friendly AmazingPhil branding.
