Wow, that picture’s pretty bad for the one advertising their new product. Dan’s one on the Young Minds site is beautiful. Ambassador for a charity’s a lovely thing, he’s only their second man too.

Sorry for the stupid question, but what exactly does a charity ambassador do?

Late to *the game* (gaming vid not party game). I just rewatched it this morning after being not that wowed last night. The video itself was good, even if some of their voices made me literally squirm and hyperventilate a bit. (Dan’s Elder Kettle especially. Phil’s Apple was so high pitched). I guess I don’t really have the nostalgia for that early animation style. That, combined with the voices just brought up slightly negative connotations for me, but it’s fine. My husband had been following the development of this game and does have fond memories of watching vhs tapes of those types of cartoons, so that was nice for him. They had lots of funny commentary and I did enjoy the cooperative play, especially Phil’s whinyness and teasing. I think visually the game was too cluttered for me to be interested in playing it, but we’ll see. Just feeling kinda meh.

Agreed that that is not a great official promo pic. It’s not like they look awful, they look like two decently attractive men, but they’re not “on” and didn’t look ready for the shot. Weird. I am excited to see them play it, even if it’s growing less likely that I actually purchase it.

Really hoping for a liveshow today, not sure if we’re going to get it.
I’d also like to hear Dan talk about ‘The Good Place’, Phil didn’t mention Jameela.

I'm not sure on the specifics and honestly I was wondering the same thing like 10 minutes ago so I might be wrong, but from what I gather ambassadors tend to be well-known people who can create exposure for a charity, basically get people to know the charity exists, what they do, and why it's needed.

So in Dan's case he can use his platform with millions of people to help promote the charity, raise awareness for mental health problems, and help raise money. He might also represent them at events, TV shows, etc. From what I know, charities tend to have relatively small budgets for pr work so they really need all the help they can get to get exposure, and attaching big names to their organization really helps.

i think that game promo photo is actually a screenshot from a possible promo video?!?
i saw that photo going around on twitter as well and saw a larger image of it that shows both their hands; it indicates movement because phil's hand is kinda blurry and dan is pointing to the game, like that finger snap thing he does, so i think it was screenshotted. which why they both look like they weren't prepared for a photo

i just can't wait for them to announce it! :D

This a perfect explanation!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I really loved waking up to this news. I know he was essentially already an ambassador upon promoting World Mental Health Day right before he posted his video, but knowing that there's a charity doing really good work that Dan's actively attached his name to is really heart-warming.

I'm looking forward to future work that he does with them and to see if he chooses to speak anywhere on behalf of them, etc. And, while I'm certain Phil will always be somewhat involved, it's nice to see Dan having his own "thing" (for lack of a better word) and that it's a good cause.

And I know it's a little bit... tactless to ask, but given it's a D&P forum and we constantly compare them, I feel I have to: Will Phil do something similar? And if so, what?

it's definitely from a promo video, idk why amazon decided to put a screenshot from a promo video up. it reminds me of the video promoting tabinof in a barnes and noble that they did:

That photo of Dan is actually lovely, and I can't wait to see what all being an ambassador entails from him. I imagine he'll be most useful to them just in enhancing their reach online, but who knows what else?

I've never been the type of person who thought it was their obligation to use their platform for charity just for the sake of ticking that box off. This is exactly how I want to see Dan use his platform - to signal boost a cause that's personal to him, that he's passionate about, and that will help a lot of people.

Though to be honest - between HelloYellow, Make-a-Wish, the fundraising for SUTC they did this around this time last year with The Internet Is Here, and the Manchester fundraising - they actually are using their combined platform way more than they ever have before, it feels like?

Thanks for the reply! I'd love to see him more involved with YM - more than just being a face listed on a homepage.
And a follow-up question: How "known" are the other ambassadors? I guess if you're from the UK you might recognise a few faces. https://youngminds.org.uk/get-involved/our-ambassadors/

I don't think there will be a LS today; Dan said "Oh I don't know what I'll be doing next Tuesday" which makes me think he knows exactly what he's doing and there might be a first board game teaser today.
Or you guys psyched me into overanalysing everything

I must admit I only recognised a couple other people on the list of ambassadors - wouldn't say any of them were very famous!

I'm hopeful for a live show, I really want to hear Dan talk more about his video last week and the response he's had as a result. I'm also still expecting some sort of game announcement before it comes out on Thursday as it seems weird for it to be on sale without them having talked about it!

I would assume we're getting the live show, mostly because if they had to cover up for it they would have posted the gaming video tonight? I'm hopeful at least. My heart really wants a joint live show with the excuse of the board game but I know it's not going to happen ;_;

I got serious warm fuzzies from those tweets, and also laughed at how many freakin' bottles of ribena they have. Must've been a bulk purchase or something :D It really is sweet when they interact publically, partly because nostalgia, partly because it feels like they're willing to share a little snapshot of their life together with their followers and it makes me happy. Like, I know it will never happen but my dearest wish in life at the moment is to be friends with these dudes and get to share in their happiness and struggles. I'm a soppy mess about them, generally. And cute tweets like this allow me to fantasize that friendship better and also appreciate their comfortably joined lives because that shiz is beautiful.

Why am I getting excited over these two using their bottle drawer for their liquid sugar stash? And why did I watch that video loop for like 20 times at least? Why am I like this?

It seriously doesn't take much for me either, those tweets made me feel all soft.

I got the notification at work and audibly aww'd. My boss was confused.

Well that's a cool compartment. I'm assuming it's refrigerated because of the stainless steel. So nice of Phil to @ his biggest fan.

liola you've got me feeling hopeful for a ls. Maybe just maybe Phil might drop in at the end, I'm thinking Dan might want to talk about his video and some pop culture stuff first. *fingers crossed*

I've been watching that video on loop and I must be either really tired or really delusional but the only thing I can think of is back to the moving theory...

That would be a nice way to deceive us, showing their very fancy compartment filled with Ribena to make us think they're all set in at the duplex while they're about to move :tinfoil:

Ignore me, I'm just slowly going insane over two boys, nothing new here

agreed! (i typed out a whole paragraph, then realised i was just reiterating what you said, so i'll leave it at that.)

the gaming video was lovely, but i could never play the game because the film grains are so distracting  the hand-drawn design looks amazing though. it also served to strengthen my opinion that they should play more co-op games (which they are doing at the moment, causing me to feel blessed, my crops are flourishing, etc). their dialogue is just so on point when they're working together.

i'm spoiler-free about the boardgame to this point, but i'm getting really curious what it'll be about and also how they'll announce it. will there be something really official or will it be more down the "we know you know" route?

Seeing Dan as an ambassador makes me really happy for some reason. It's nice seeing that he didnt 'come out' as having depression and then do nothing, it makes me really happy that he's choosing to align himself with a charity because it feels like he's really thought about this and is wanting to do some good in the world rather than say he's suffered with depression and then just leave it at that. I'm so proud and so happy that he's doing this - it feels especially important because he's a man and he has a lot of things that are enviable. Kinda shows that depression can happen to anybody - which is something that when I was 15 and severely, severely depressed would have been a massive amount of validation.

Also, I've literally planned my sleep schedule today around Dan doing a liveshow so he best deliver :sadgarbage: (and i've had a really fucking shitty day where someone nearly made me cry so plz deliver Daniel, I need a virtual hug)

i think they were planning for an official announcement and then it leaked so they're dropping more "we know you know" hints (announcement moose, the collab with tom and hazel, the clip in tom's vlog) but will still go with the official announcement. i guess we'll see if/when dan does a liveshow how it's approached.
