A subscriber suggested making a compilation of the whole holiday and I liked the idea so look forward to that as well!

Awww yeah they both tweeted goodbye-related things, they're definitely on their way home. (Or already home.)

They’re back home and I miss them already.

How sweet they met up with Will and Arden. I didn’t think they knew each other that well, pleasantly surprised. Anyone else notice Dan looks kinda like Will when he puts on Phil’s glasses in ‘giving the people what they want’? I guess if they’re home, that was safe flying, irrational part of my brain kept chirping about that. I love Dan’s crossing story. So many people, he makes a good point.

So they've presumably been back for two days at this point? I'm guessing the radio silence day before yesterday was the travel day.

So content wise, I'm guessing we'll get a liveshow from Phil on the weekend and then maybe a video next week? I'm gonna throw a guess out that he'll do at least a video a week the first three weeks of December to try and cash in on that jacked up adsense.

I also wonder if he's facing any COPPA issues? The gaming channel might have since a lot of gaming channel seem to be swept up under the 'for kids' category regardless of actual content, but despite people referring to Phil as a children's entertainer sometimes I have a feeling demographic wise he's actually in the clear.

i am so soft for dan all of a sudden. i’ve always wondered why he (having money/loving music & theater/having a, ahem, very flexible work schedule) DIDNT see more live shows. it just makes sense to me (but also it is my answer to the “what would you do if you had unlimited wealth” question...see live music & travel. so perhaps i am over identifying) i always wondered if it was the public persona thing...being worried about being recognized? because it seems like he (and phil) saw live music a lot more in the earlier days, but also maybe that was a bbc thing...

anyway. happy he saw someone he loves. he is living his best life lately!!!!

I got recommended a video about this earlier and went down a bit of a rabbit hole and ... this is a hell of a thing. The main issue at the moment seems to be the vagueness of the criteria that might make a video 'for kids', and while I wouldn't classify Phil as a kids channel at all, according to COPPA's criteria he has some videos that are in a bit of a grey area - things like making slime, spons from Disney and Pokemon (which weren't in the title or thumbnail but *were* in the description, so again a grey area), stuff about snacks or school. There's even specific mention of things like 'using bright, vibrant colours', 'pets' and 'snack food and cereal'.

Under the current version of the law, any creator, including Phil, who has videos that could *possibly* be interpreted as appealing to kids, has to decide whether to flag it as 'for kids' or 'not for kids'. If it's marked as for kids, they lose 90% ad revenue on it, no comments, it doesn't appear in searches or recommendations, no notifications. If it's flagged by the creator as 'not for kids' but someone at the FTC later decides it looks like it could be, the creator could be fined up to 40K *per video*. Yikes.

The gaming channel is tricky because you have things like Resident Evil or even CAH that are obviously not for kids, but then you have Mario, Pokemon, Fortnite, Minecraft. Doesn't matter if you're swearing up a storm - does the thumbnail and title look like it could be appealing to kids? The whole thing is a mess, and so many creators will get screwed. (This is why their innuendo-ey titles might actually come in handy, lol.)

It looks like it isn't 100% a done deal yet - you can still leave comments on the FTC's website for review before the final version of the law, and there's a petition - so hopefully they'll get a clearer understanding of just how big a problem this current version is. But just over a month reeeeally isn't long to sort that out. I doubt Phil will talk about it much, or at all, but it'll be interesting to see if it has any effect on his future content, if it goes into effect as-is. I hope not.

(No wonder so many YouTubers are doing merch/streaming/podcasts/diversifying...)

I came here to ask a specific question and in gathering the info I answered it myself so I’ll ask another. Since they are back, did anyone find the (presumably) hotel where Dan did his voter registration psa from? The materials are very distinct. Also dang there are some gorgeous luxury and boutique hotels in Tokyo.
