Could this have been for the pride corgi and poster Phil released at the end of June?

I really wish I cared enough to speculate and get excited but the reality is that.. I don't. I just don't care what Dan's project is; I'm happy that it looks like he's finally going to release it because I can imagine he's been feeling creatively frustrated by having it delayed. And I'm happy for the people who will get to enjoy it. Personally, I don't think I'm gonna spend my money on it unless it's a memoir that involves his story with Phil. Call me shallow or whatever, I realized I reached the point where I only care about Dan because of his involvement with Phil and like.. I'd feel bad but it's all in reaction to his behaviour towards his fans so, his loss

I mean we’ve all been through this silence during his break 100 times and finally releasing something doesn’t erase how he went about it and how it made people feel. No need to go into the 10th discussion about it but no need to act like our feelings aren’t valid because he finally decides to interact again either.
And I get that the phandom is a lot but in a year where we saw Jenna marbles, Safiya, Sean, Thomas, Ingrid, etc. take breaks or step away for a while and communicate with their audience - every single one of them- I think it’s understandable why we’d want the same thing. Moving on though I hope he releases this soon so we can get back to Phil’s regularly scheduled content
Basically all of this. I don't think I'll ever stop being upset at how he went at it, not the break itself, more the complete ghosting and ignoring. But we've talked about it too many times and at this point if people don't see this point of view they just see it I guess. Just would be nice to not invalidate it.
Anyway. Like you I just hope this doesn't mean that we will get a break on Phil's content just to make Dan breathe, that would be a bad move and I already miss his videos ;_; the quiz was good but it doesn't have high replay value for me.
I don't want to get my hopes up for Phil to release a project next year, but I sure hope something Is moving in that direction from him

I respect everyone not looking forward to it and everyone has their own intense personal and emotional reactions. Like, that's just a fact, and everyone has their right to that.
For me it comes down to... God, am I just excited to see his face regularly again even if briefly. Whatever this project is - even if it's the worst book of poetry ever - it's gonna be something for us to chew on instead of having the same five conversations over and over. And also, poetry is just like, rife with things to analyze.
Also whatever this project is, if his activity is a lead up to something (which I'm sure it is, book or not) it's already blessed us with mostly naked Dan in a lace kimono on a sad pimp blanket. It's earned its keep.

At this point I will just be happy to finally be in the know when the project is released, and hopefully it means Dan can go back to regularly communicating with us again and maybe YouNows or some form of live shows can begin again? It depends on what the project (book?) is about to whether I get it, I am not going to get it just because it is Dan. For example if it is poetry, that’s not something I am interested in, so I will probably give it a miss. I also agree that when it is released it will give us stuff to talk about again and the community will hopefully be more active again.
I also agree that how dan went about the whole thing wasn’t smart on his behalf but I can kind of understand it now to some extent, as if he was busy writing he probably didn’t have much to share, and then with lockdown aswell he probably thought it would be released a lot quicker than it was, I don’t think he deliberately ghosted his fans.
What are people thinking about soon? Do we reckon today, or October when the last project was meant to be released?

"Soon" is incredibly ominous and could mean anything between a day and next year. It does feel like he's ramping up to something, as mentioned upthread, he has a tendency to go quiet while working on something and then pop back again when the release is getting close. This time it might just be a year of working instead of a few weeks like it was back when.
I'm also not very happy with how he disappeared without explaining, but I think there's a big chance that he never meant to go on such a long hiatus. I think he might have initially thought he was going to be gone a few months at best and would just tell us when he was ready to come back, but then BIG turned out to be bigger and more difficult than he expected, and then whatever was supposed to drop last year/this spring just kept falling through and/or getting pushed back.
They've maybe learned their lesson in saying TBC or hinting at stuff, because of fiascos like II South America. I mean, the Mexico viewing literally fell through the day before tickets were supposed to go on sale (iirc) and that was just a terrible experience for everyone.

I am an absolute bitch for personal essay collections so that's my number one wish for what his book could be. I have read an embarrassing amount of books like that during quaratine so even though my interest in dnp has faded a little bit, if that's what his secret project ends up being, I will be first in line to preorder.
I think a personal essay collection is actually an ideal format for someone like Dan. It would allow him to write about his own experiences but because it's a less rigid format then a full-on memoir and there's less of an expectation to offer a complete narrative of one's life, it doesn't need to be linear and he can skip around so he only has to talk about the aspects of his life he wants to talk about. I feel like, back when he was a youtuber, his greatest strength was his storytelling. So even though I'm not quite sure about his abilities as a writer, I still feel fairly confident in his ability to at least tell me an interesting story about his life. And I think that kind of format would really suit him.
I can easily see him writing something similar to Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson tbh. Something that talks about serious things with humor but then also sincerity and seriousness when necessary. Some of my favorite books of all time have actually been essay collections written in that vein by professionally funny internet people like Samantha Irby and R. Eric Thomas (and of course the aforementioned Furiously Happy), so I'd love to see what Dan could come up with. I think he has a fairly interesting perspective as someone who blew up incredibly young on youtube and rode the wave of it transforming from a lesser known social media to a massive platform and highly sought-after career, as someone who very quickly had a notoriously intense fandom formed around him and his partner, and as someone who has spent the overwhelming majority of his adulthood being very visible and hyper-analyzed whilst also hiding massive parts of himself away from the public. And, if actually executed well, I think a book written from his perspective could be really cool.
(That said...who knows if he's actually a good physical writer lol. Maybe he is but IDK! I'm keeping my expectations low! Especially because he could end up dropping a poetry collection. (Which I wouldn't *hate* because I like poetry! (Elizabeth Acevedo could literally release a series of poems written on dirty dinner napkins and I would still pay a full $24.99 to buy a collection of them stapled together to read in my home.) But I *would* be significantly more skeptical of his ability to successfully execute a poetry collection and I would as a result be significantly less excited about his book and much more likely to wait and read reviews first before possibly borrowing it from my library lol.)
(I'm so sorry this is so long y'all apparently I'm physically incapable of expressing thoughts without rambling for 10 minutes about them.)

I think you're right that this would be perfect for Dan. Writing essays rather than a full memoir would allow him to write about Phil, for instance, without having to make some sort of declaration about their relationship.
And almost everyone in the phandom would want to read it.

I'm curious as to why people think Dan could end up dropping a poetry book. Has he ever indicated an interest? I only wonder because he's always so facetious, with moments of sincerity nearly always followed up with some dumb joke, and I don't know if I could see him committing to A Serious Poetry Book, you know? Like imagine him marketing something like that...like I feel like he'd have a difficult time not being self-deprecating which of course goes in complete opposition to a sincere poetry book, unless the poetry itself was more humorous/tongue-in-cheek which honestly might be kind of fun. I honestly don't know.

I still think it might be something gaming related or like a short thematic YouTube series, like a left tube thing or even interviews with other people. Whatever it is, I just hope it’s something he is proud of and that it hasn’t been diluted too much by other influences; like collaborating with others or having editors is one thing, but having too many contractural obligations or other voices can be a problem for some creative output. Love everyone’s ideas, though.

Off topic but it's dnpg anniversary! Here's some nostalgia for your day:
I still enjoy rewatching this video, while it's clear they haven't quite hit their stride as a gaming channel, don't have an intro/outro, are still trying to be a little bit like a let's play rather than complete chaos, many of the classic elements of dnpg bants are there.
dnpg 2014-2018. She is missed.

Months ago he posted a few short poems on ig stories, almost haikus but not quite. It was so random and different, it got us wondering.

Time to not make any sense but: I’d like it to be a memoir but I wouldn’t buy or read it if it was. I think the only thing I’d be compelled to actually buy and spend time on would be fiction if it’s a genre I’m interested in, especially if it had queer characters. I’d like a memoir for a few different reasons though, one of them being that writing a memoir is actually very hard and it would make sense for him to need a lot of time and space to do it (even though I’ll never excuse the way he went about his break, sorry). I’d also like to know what would be in the memoir but I’d rely on you guys to talk about it here.
I’m probably in the minority here but I would absolutely not like a self help book or a book about queerness from Dan. A book about his own journey and his discovery of his sexuality, yes, of course, but not in general. I don’t wanna get into it too much but I don’t think Dan could pull it off. He’s trying to stay informed and all but I don’t think he could cover topics like being transgender or asexual or, like, being a queer woman in a sensitive enough way. I’d be happy if he proved me wrong of course, but I don’t see it and I don’t wanna end up disappointed.
Also, I just saw someone mention an essay collection and I’d be here for that, I’d like that.

There are only a few things that I really wonder about with the flat. I wonder where that deer bedding and headboard is that Phil showed in his video last year and I’m also curious about where they keep all of their personal stuff like that picture of David Boreanaz or the art Adrian gave Dan for his birthday last year
Bringing this back because I feel like that David Boreanaz picture was a personal shout out to me but it seems like we're back on moving hill again. Interesting that he dropped this video without a members post or any kind of lead in because he's been pretty consistent lately. I'm actually convinced that if they haven't moved yet it's imminent because there was some furniture rearranging in dan's photo and now in the filming flat the plant behind phil is gone and he's organizing things....a lot to think about.

Pure filler but a surprise. I’m not on moving hill because of this video. I’m more on “Phil wanted to sell his merch and wanted to put video out before he makes something longer”. I love Phil but the fast pace in some of the videos literally stresses me out. I kept thinking slow down. Stop throwing things around. I feel like sometimes he forgets you don’t have to try and constantly keep people attention like when you’d only have a few minutes for videos. Now days I’ll sit down and watch 40+ minute videos and thinking nothing of it.
I’ll probably watch again tonight but I’ve really enjoyed his recent content a lot more than this. But like I said it I think it’s was just a quick video to make to spon merch. Also now I don’t expect Dans project to be as soon as I first thought.

Phil’s had more than a month to make a video and he went all out with that quiz show to sell his merch so I don’t think this was purely for promo. He didn’t even give us a members post or any tweets to prepare us.
This video was rushed but rushed and disheveled in the same way that videos were in 2017 before their last move

I really agree with this part! I liked the video, but it was one of the ones that left me wanting more. Not necessarily anything highly different, just more. The idea of needing to go through some random shit in your house and deciding to make a video out of it works for me, and if there was a bit more structure and lenght or chill and chatty vibes to it I think I would absolutely eat it up. Maybe that's just not his style and has never been, but... even just a little more of it mixed in with the fast-paced lovely chaotic silliness? Please? (And all of this applies even if he was in a particular hurry to get a video out this time around.)

“This video was rushed but rushed and disheveled in the same way that videos were in 2017 before their last move”
I’ve been reading moving theory’s since 2017 when they literally just moved into this place. So yeah I do take every moving mention with a pinch of salt. Hell for the sake of it I’ll join moving hill this time to keep the fun. But I swear if they don’t I’m not even going to believe dan and Phil when they actually tell us they are moving. Also I disagree the videos in 2017 weren’t rushed or disheveled just before they moved. They put 10 videos in April the same month they moved. Plus liveshows and a lot of the videos are bangers so anyway I’ll join in today. That ugly vase in the back. Definitely moving
