I keep trying to read the typed out ISG rant that is on the mug but my brain just... refuses :') Also those photocards are super cute.

Thanks to the people who gave some love to me and the compilations. I'm glad that people find them useful :love2: :platonic:

For anyone else that couldn't read the stream-of-consciousness text block, here is a formatted and punctuated version of dan's "rant".

(also i totally forgot the mug design was text-based and i thought i walked into one hell of a mess when i opened tumblr today  )

I just want to say that the Dan and Phil shop dvds probably will be shipped and delivered before I actually finish these audio commentary timestamps. I'm like three pages in on google docs and not even halfway through the actual commentary yet. Not to mention I keep just like, carelessly losing my place and shrugging and going welp gotta start over. Just because it's so damn pleasant to listen to. I could die a peaceful death at the hands of their soft giggles to each other.

Did anyone else find this unexpectedly deep? Like I know it's coated with sarcasm but somethings he said like "I am merely a highly flawed individual that is for some reason burdened and privileged with the responsibility of managing the emotions of millions of people anonymously online".. that came from a deep place. I feel like he put this tiny text on one of his merch to express his true feelings that he may be too afraid to write on his tumblr page or say in a liveshow. You can sense the distress Dan is feeling in his writing even though he's joking. Also Dan is a damn good writer.

I don’t pick up on any sarcasm in the text, honestly. It lacks the sharp edges Dan often uses to protect himself. For me it reads as an honest, conflicted reflection on his relationship with the ISG audience.

I’d never thought about having an inbox with hundreds of thousands of problems people wanted to tell me about mixed in with content apparently meant to traumatize me for laughs. The dichotomy makes me understand a tiny bit more what Dan is exploring with the audience in II. Only a tiny bit, but still.

Unrelated, but I’ve been wondering if Dan’s dad was involved in setting up or designing the giant snow globe at all. One of the only facts Dan’s shared about his dad is that he used to be a fake snow technician on movie sets.

I agree!
First I was with @Catallena and thought "no way I'm reading this mess", but the formatted on isn't crazier than usual Dan waffling. It was actually very interesting and, dare I say, almost a new perspective/facet? Though when asked about it, he'll probably say it's all a joke and that we should read anything into it.

This is kind of what I expected Dan's internal monologue about ISG to be like. So I'm not surprised, but it's a very interesting read because we so rarely get to catch a glimpse of his more honest reflections.
I say "more honest" because I think this piece has been crafted (it's printed on a damn mug that's selling as merch after all  ) It's unclear to which extent he filtered out other ideas that might be received less sympathetically. How much is he using hyperbole or otherwise altering the text to achieve a certain effect and message? In my opinion, the gist of it sounds fairly sincere, even though I think he dramatizes his real thoughts and feelings quite a bit for good measure. The 'stream of consciousness style' and certain hyperbolic statements like 'managing the emotions of millions' or 'infinite pain of the universe' tip me off that we shouldn't just take all of his statements as that what lives in his heart of hearts. But it could be, or at least hint at it ... and that's why I respect him. I think it's bold to be open and bold in that way with an audience of millions of strangers, especially given his personality.

A less generous interpretation is that Ironically, this printed 'rant' could also be viewed as the kind of 'sly trick' he writes about. This piece of text only adds to the "entertaining video" that is the Dan TM internet personality which we are interested in as fans. It's this interest in (uncle) Dan that ultimately allows him to do a lot of the things he has done. The text succeeds in making us talk about him once more and some fans end up really buying the mug and giving it a place in our home and heart. Even while I really don't think he's consciously aiming to pull that kind of 'sly trick', the dynamic of us as a fandom being all caught up with the advice of Dan [the famous youtuber] in some ways resembles precisely the deception he's afraid of when people 'troll' his ISG inbox

Still this text paints a picture of the more complex thoughts and contradictions that Dan feels about ISG. He brings up things that really point to him doing a lot of introspection. This is how I've always understood Dan to engage with his role and his content in general (see also the highly artistic spin he gave to DINOF/ II in the q&a.) I'm pretty damn sure he has just as much (conflicted) ideas about a lot of other issues in his life. He just is that kind of person, I think. He talks about the agony in his head, and I think the way he can ruminate about his own flaws and perceptions are one major source of that. Hence why irony and sarcasm provide so much of a shield to him and finding out what he's really meaning to say is no easy task.
When watching ISG's, my sense is that he sometimes tries to mediate what he feels about things with broader perspectives that aren't necessarily his own. No wonder he finds himself 'trapped' in these thoughts as murky reality doesn't always allow for clear cut positions that are consistent with everything he rationally believes, what he feels and what would be a harmonic outcome for everyone involved.

You know, I would love to read more from Dan. There's a youtuber I follow who's gonna start a blog soon to talk about her goals and dreams, the struggling of growing up, the things that have helped her mental health and what makes her happy and how, and I would love if Dan followed that path.
Of course, I am aware that the chances of that happening are very slim, but I genuinely think that Dan is good with words and writing could be a good way to let his thoughts flow, especially 'cause he always says that he's scared of being vulnerable, therefore being open and honest through writing might be less scary for him than having a camera pointed on himself.

I found the ISG text very genuine and he does write well. I found his fanfic in Tabinof really good, though a bit flowery with description. Hopefully he knows he can write well even if he doesn't want to admit it/seem bigheaded, so maybe he'll do more sometime. I was sad when he said in a liveshow about an upcoming project a while ago "not another book! don't worry!" so vehemently.

Dan writing more in-depth about his thoughts would be great. He already did some of that on DINOF imo. He's said that he loosely 'scripts' his video's and fondly preserves the script of PINOF one as a keepsake. What's that if not writing that he just puts on video afterwards? His 'rant' on the mug is just another form and style of sharing his (v)logged thoughts. "Daniel and depression" and "Living my own truth" are also the well prepared result of a process of reflection which he must have committed on paper at least partially before filming it. So I think he already does write, it's just easy to miss if you watch the video as a finished product.

Fully written out blog posts would be a new style of delivery but I don't think it's that radically different of what he tried to do with DINOF. I would love it if he really wrote well thought out articles, but I do think he'll stick video as the medium because that's just what the people want :) The amount of people and time generally spent on watching video (on sites like youtube) are just much orders of magnitude bigger than the attention that a blog or a Livejournals gets. Maybe he would consider a podcast? That seems to draw in some creators and audiences?
I just want him to do something that's personal and gives us a chance to get to know him. In whatever form of delivery he prefers

I think this is the first official info we've got about the dvds, that wasn't through replies to individual people?
I got my shipping conformation yesterday so we'll see. The socks took 7 business days to arrive without the Christmas shopping deliveries coming to full effect yet. I'm carefully optimistic about it arriving before Christmas.

That video was cute and just... so incredibly sexual. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I'm still not sad to see an end to the golf series. I hope they find something to replace it with. I think the format of something with varying levels (that doesn't increase in difficulty and leave them weirdly pressured to skip to the harder ones without bothering to learn the necessary skills you'd get in the intermediate challenges; lookin' at you, bomb game series) but a generally standalone concept is good for them.

That was just a video of absolute filth and I could not stop laughing throughout. There were just too many moments that it would take too long to list them all. Just so good. I too will miss this series. Maybe if they release another level then they will play again.

That video was incredible and I'm just here to say I'm weirdly proud of Phil's pride in how much he loves tentacles and how he automatically assumed the octopus was a male, 2018 is the year of Phil. I can't even be sad that golf is ending cause it ended with a BANG. It's been one of my favourite series in the channel so I'm sad to see it go, hopefully it'll be replaced with something even better

Look who bothered to do timestamps for the first time in ages

0.19 The outfits are left over from something. Were they pirates in one of the calendars? Or just in Tatinof? Are they cleaning out storage again? :hmmm:
0.35 Choke me daddy, festive edition
0.38 This silent pause followed by giggle is super cute for absolutely no reason
1.48 Dan winks and says he can host? There's something here I don't understand, someone please fill me in.
2.24 There's an angry purple crab on a box. That's me if the dvd doesn't arrive before Christmas.
3.04 Absolute twit nipple. I think that's a new one.
3.53 Dan likes to bounce off the rim.
4.02 Oh woow, "what what in the putt" gave me major flashbacks to a video I haven't thought about in about 10 years. What is life.
4.25 Are you pulling my peg leg. British people and their weird sayings.
4.50 Ass is always on Phil's mind is what i'm learning.
5.48. "Gayly adjusting my stance" Of course you are Phil, of course you are.
6.03 Phil wants to bribe youtube?
6.10 And he's edging us. Yeah bribing sounds about right.
6.29 Dan needs Phil to appreciate his ass joke. It just wasn't that good.
6.39 The goldfish has strap-ons now? Does Phil need a cold shower?
7.07 They talk in unison and I'm scared?
8.00 Oingo boingo I'm a dick
9.23 Plankspank.com sadly doesn't exist.
10.17 Stop saying "put it in", please Daniel
11.54 "Right in the poop deck" okay no that was worse
12.04 Lol the dolphin made me laugh
14.08 I can't.
14.48 Phil likes his ruffles it seems
18.55 "Am I sexual" I think the answer is clearly yeah
21.40 It's actually quite satisfying when Phil scores
22.03 Yeah I'm 99% sure that phanfiction exists.
22.41 "You love a good tentacle don't you"
23.23 And Phil doesn't want a hook up. I'm not convinced after all that.

All in all it felt like a culmination of all the jokes about holes and whacks and rims throughout the series. It's been good but it's time for something new.
