To get back on topic at least a bit: I was gonna say that I agree with
zvezdochka about acknowledging the women's marches - I do think it's good they tweeted about it and seem to become more open about expressing political opinions, since they have a large, young and impressionable audience and it's positive that they use it for something good.
But then again, it's just a tweet. We don't have to praise them too much for that. A ton of other people actually went to the marches and are involved way more.
Also this isn't exactly a controversial cause to get behind: peaceful rallies for equality, plus I guess there are hardly any Trump supporters amongst their followers.
Unlike taking sides in the Pewdiepie discussion would have been
Just saying they still stay on the safe side of things but that's ok I guess

Can I just add that I'm pretty sure Felix apologised if he had upset anyone in one of his most recent videos (can't remember what one). Not that it justifies his actions but he did say sorry.

he didn't really. he was arrogant and smug about it. it's not just the edgy jokes, it's multiple things and his attitude (which i'm not going to rant about because that's for the pewdiepie thread) that make him an asshole.

When Dan mentioned Meryl Streep's anti-trump speech at the GG in his ls he "rustled jimmies" in the chat. I think there's more supporters than you'd expect.

I think it's fine to acknowledge and encourage progress in someone who in the past hasn't shown many political opinions or commented on issues. It feels weird to negate that someone did something good - even if it was just retweet a picture to four million people - because they didn't do enough good. Judge the dude by the standards he set for himself, and he's surpassed them. A picture that showed support of the march and of same-sex couples, and not only after Dan had done it first - for Phil, that was a lot. Hopefully he'll continue in that vein.
I do wish they'd do more publicly, of course, and they shouldn't get praise for things they haven't done or praise at the exclusion of people doing more. But this is a forum for Dan and Phil, so it's natural that they are the focus of what we discuss here that's march related.

Didnt mean to make it sound like demanding more from them!
Agreed this is the place to be Deppy and for everything else I have absolutely no problem with that (that's what we're all here for lol) - but I guess it just always rubs me the wrong way when white guys get praised for something that's the bare minimum of political engagement - especially in this case when it was an event planned, carried out by and centered around women.
Idk... I'll stop arguing this point now.

First, I think
zvezdochka is completely right, there's no need to really praise them for retweeting some things and making a generic statements once in a while. Especially because I feel like they get this much praise simply because they're white males, aka a demograpic not usually in support of the social justice and feminism. Women never get praise for being a feminist (in social justice circles it is expected and women who don't feel comfortable with the label for whatever reason get shamed to hell and back) but men do. White male mediocrity strikes again. I think it's cool that D&P care and that they retweeted some thing about the marches but some people (not even really talking about the forum, just generally on social media) praised them so much for so little... That isn't to say that they have to do more (they're fine imo), just that the phandom maybe has to do a little less :')
palpable wrote:A few thoughts on the Felix/pewdiepie situation under the spoiler, because I got some things on my mind I cannot leave unsaid.
I really don't think anyone here is doing that though. If I gave you that vibe I'm sorry but imo we're just far past that stage with Felix. I completely agree on giving people chances to educate themselves and do better, because nobody came out of the womb all enlightened. I was ignorant as shit just like everybody else and still am on many subjects. Everybody should get the chance and time to become a better person (and that journey never really ends).
But that just no longer goes for Felix because he just doesn't care and I don't feel like a morally superior snowflake for passing judgement over him for that, nor for wishing for people I like to stop associating with someone like him. The people one associates with often reflect their thoughts, opinions and behaviour after all.. I personally feel like any friendship Felix has with other YouTubers suffers from a massive power imbalance which causes his friends not to call him out on anything and be quick to forgive. He holds a lot of power, and he abuses it constantly both online and IRL. Now I'm not concerned that Deppy's friendship with him reflects their ~true selves~ or anything, but they also won't call him out because of that 'friendship' and that's what I have a problem with. Especially when they then follow it up with some fond joke about him being a 'problematic dad'.
I have plenty of problematic faves (I'm a kpop stan after all, there's nothing about that industry isn't problematic) and generally I do get annoyed at how quickly people turn on celebs and such if they make one ignorant statement. Especially because of how selective people are, often just looking for shit to justify hating one person while forgiving another person for worse. So you're absolutely right about that, but I don't think it's fair to apply that to this situation.

Yesterday I came across someone on Twitter who claimed to love Harry Potter, Doctor Who etc. and was just deeply into fandom culture but was a really hardcore Trump supporter. I was hella confused and wondering whether we had read the same books written by my problematic fave J.K. Rowling. I know that considering how popular the books are plenty of shitty and evil people must've read them as well but it was so weird for me to see. I'm sure there are Trump supporting phandom members as well. The world is strange.

I log in a month later to discussion as utterly perplexing as the one I left on.
Why are y'all convinced Felix is a big bad Youtube King who is using his unofficial power to shut down any potential callouts (intentional or not). All around the world in that infamous *Real Life TM* people remain friends with people who exhibit shitty traits, including lack of PC (in the best sense of that word) and even give them public support. Because they value the friendship (family relationship etc.) sometimes to the extent that their backbone disappears and / or they don't think it's a hill to die on. It's the same as loyal people who have serial cheater friends. It happens all the bloody time

Maybe it's because I'm not from the US and can't imagine anybody supporting Trump at all...
But then again here we have the AfD, Front National, PVV, FPÖ and all these other assholes....
I didn't know about the Meryl Streep incident but I watched his pre-election day ls and in that one he was particularly anti-trump and confrontational and I didn't really notice anybody objecting in the comments, people were mostly scared and worried.

I think they're greater than signs. He's giving his preference for coke containers in order - and apparently really, really dislikes plastic coke bottles.
Phil also
posted on facebook earlier asking for gaming suggestions, if anyone has anything they're dying to see them play.

He posted that notice on his community tab on YT as well.
Had a look at the replies on Twitter to that tweet. A lot of jokes made about the other kind of 'coke'

+ jokes were made about 4.20 (he missed it by a minute)

Also he liked this tweet! There are a lot of nice and cute games, I hope they play some of them.

there has been an old as time debate that drinks in glass bottles taste better than canned. Beer and Coke are the two most popular victims of this, generally people agree that drinks in a glass bottle tastes the best because the metal of the can affects the flavour, and the plastic of the bottle kind of dulls it down.

I really dislike people treating this child as a joke. He's underage, he didn't choose to be in the public eye. Ugh.

100% agree with you, bee. I was kinda surprised that Dan went there.
Also, Phil is dead wrong. Canned coke is the most inferior coke, by far. I like Hector's art, though.

I'd love to hear Dan and Phil's opinions on Manchester by the Sea! Hopefully they go on another date to see it lol. They (particularly Phil) seem to really be pushing the gaming channel and working hard which is awesome because I love their gaming channel. Also I hope Dan's butt is better after the fall
Jeez Dan's queue is dark af
Canned coke is gross and fountain coke rules #unstanning

Random:
idk and I were discussing this on Twitter yesterday, but I thought I’d post it here too, for posterity’s sake:
I deciphered the blurred message in this picture (tweeted by Dan on 29 January 2012):
[link to Twitpic]
It says:
- Sounds good to
Me! Also we should maybe
mention that we may be
free on the 11th if al
cancels and we’l hopefully
find that out tomorrow
Presumably they were talking about March 11th, 2012, and the "Al" in question was Phil’s cousin Al, whose March birthday Phil once referenced in a tweet saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY COUSIN AL."
According to another one of his tweets, Phil
did hang out with Martyn and Cornelia on the 11th, so presumably Al didn’t cancel.
Anyway, this is related to nothing, but I wanted to have a record of this transcription somewhere haha.
